For some people, having connections on LinkedIn is just a number game. Even they like to mention the number of connections at the top of their profile. To me, it is not something to be proud of unless you prove that all or most of your connections sent YOU the requests to connect. This does not happen unless you are a celebrity, a top recruiter or an influencer.
LinkedIn itself suggests growing network by providing with a list of suggested connections. If you blindly start sending 15 connection requests every day, there are chances that 4-5 people will accept the offer. This exercise does not take time; just a few seconds. If you are consistent, you can grow your network quickly. However, is it worth building your network in this way? Out of the 500 million LinkedIn users, hardly 1% or even less are active users. There is no point of adding people to your network that rarely come online or contribute anything. What to do then?
If you are an active LinkedIn user, then it is not a big deal to grow the network in a right manner. There are thousands of posts on LinkedIn every day on various topics. While navigating through these posts, you can quickly identify the users that are active. Depending on your interest, start sending connection requests to those active participants. Always send a personalised message with your request as chances that your offer will be rejected reduce when you personalise the request. This approach will also help in reducing receiving irrelevant messages. Keep in mind that whenever any of your connections like a post, it is shared with you.
