The impact on the environment is a factual reality that cannot be hidden. The effects of human activity on the planet are presented daily with unexpected climate changes and catastrophes.

The main current environmental problems can be summarized as: climate change (caused by the emission of greenhouse gases), biodiversity loss, air pollution, water pollution, and deforestation.

We are well aware that these are not minor problems. Therefore, the only way to stop them is for each individual to act in good faith and commit to doing what they can. In this cause, every effort counts.

At Grupo Signe, we are doing our part. This World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, we want to share with you our firm commitment to sustainability and environmental improvement, which translates into the thorough monitoring of each environmental aspect derived from our activities.

To improve our environmental performance, we previously identify the environmental aspects associated with our activities to minimize any negative impacts that may arise.

We carry out this monitoring through environmental indicators linked to our production processes, setting specific objectives to improve a little more each year.

10 actions by Grupo Signe for the environment

Here are the actions we are taking:

1. Annual Audit in Accordance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

We have an Environmental Management System capable of meeting the requirements of the standard, documentation, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

2. Internal waste audit and facility conditioning

We conduct this voluntary audit to identify issues related to internal waste management with the aim of implementing corrective actions.

3. Energy efficiency

We regulate the renewal of state-of-the-art printing machines that ensure a 27.3% reduction in energy consumption.

4. Chemical storage

We use approved containers DIBt Z-38.5-292 and fire resistance certification by IBS, Linz.

5. Less polluting inks for our production

We use water-based inks as they are less polluting than oil-based inks.

6. Awareness of our workforce

Every month, we raise awareness and promote the circular economy, respect for our planet, and environmental education associated with job positions through our internal communication channels.

7. Compensation of our CO2 footprint

We protect a forest area of 500 trees in the province of Soria, capable of absorbing 40 tons of CO2 over the next 40 years.

8. Operational and industrial control

We monitor the consumption of water, electricity, gas, paper, plastic and cardboard packaging, fuels, generation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to set our goals based on their significance.

9. Emergency drill plan

We conduct annual drills for spills, pipe breakages, fires, etc., according to the defined internal environmental protocol, as a preventive measure for any potential situation.

10. 90% recycled material packaging and responsible waste management

We are one of the first Spanish companies to adhere to SCRAP IMPLICA (Collective Extended Producer Responsibility System) in compliance with European packaging recycling regulations, which can be verified on all our invoices and delivery notes.

Additionally, we carry out other actions that contribute to environmental sustainability:

• We calculate the carbon footprint of Grupo Signe’s vehicles and use electric and C-label vehicles.
• We use reusable absorbent cloths to clean machinery and more sustainable cleaning products in the office.
• We use eco-labeled office paper.
• We prioritize using stairs over elevators.
• We replace plastic cups with cardboard cups in coffee machines.
• And many more.

As you can see, we undertake several actions to protect the environment, recognizing that making processes more efficient and sustainable is not only in our DNA but is also our purpose.
