1. Who is Mancala

The Mancala Group is an innovative provider of mining and civil solutions to the industry throughout Australia and offshore. Established in 1990 with the opening of the South Comet Mine on Tasmania’s west coast, Mancala has forged a reputation in handheld development and stoping, mechanised development and stoping, vertical development, and the provision of innovative and specialised mining solutions to the industry.

We have ongoing contracts at a gold mine in Victoria, gold mine in Tasmania, tin mine in Tasmania and base metals mine in Queensland, an ongoing Umbrella Agreement with Hydro Tasmania, as well as large raisebore ventilation shafts and associated civil works at a coal mine in New South Wales and a silver mine in Queensland. Mancala has just completed a greenfield decline and exploration ore drives development in outback New South Wales, providing all statutory requirements from Mining Engineering Manager down.

Our Engineering team in Bendigo are providing full project fabrication as well as maintenance repairs and overhauls for large raisebore rigs from one of the largest raisebore contractors in Australia, as well as our own raisebore rigs and mining and shaft equipment.

In recent years, Mancala has completed the entire mining process for the base metal Fossey mine in Tasmania. This was under an alliance with the Principal with Mancala providing all mining and maintenance equipment and personnel, the complete technical services team for the mine, and all other aspects from the stope to the ROM pad. Mancala completed this project from start-up to mine closure and over the duration of the project achieved a safety record in excess of 900 days LTI free.

Mancala recently completed an international full mining contract, from cutting the portal to stope production, at a nickel mine in Vietnam. This involved mobilising a highly skilled but small workforce of expat employees to train and transition a local workforce. Mancala were highly successful in this operation, with successful transition to a local workforce while exceeding development and production targets, and maintained an impeccable safety record, achieving in excess of 1200 days LTI free. Mancala was recognised for the success of this project by the presentation of the AMMA Award – the industry award for innovation in development and training.

With a management team having more than 200 years of combined experience, Mancala has a broad range of experience through the mining spectrum, including a wealth of knowledge in the construction of shafts with man entry. Mancala knows and understands the complex compliance issues in gaining government approvals to supply and operate headframe and winding systems. It has over its 30 years undertaken a range of man entry shaft projects. We believe in producing an end project safely and efficiently.
