1%

One percent.

Just 1% better. Everyday.

That’s all it takes. That’s how success happens.

Last night at practice we talked about getting just a little bit better every single day.

We often try to make huge improvements all at once. We feel that’s the only way we can reach our potential. We get frustrated when we don’t see the results we want immediately.

The truth is that success is gradual. Becoming your best self is a continuous, compounding process that takes time. Change doesn’t happen overnight. It builds from the little gains you made yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that…

Most people get down on themselves after a few weeks of hard work and not “feeling” any better or seeing results. Some even quit. We expect too much too quickly, as if success is something to be attained in mere days. We feel stuck. Stagnant. We don’t appreciate the small, consistent improvements we are making. We compare ourselves to others and wonder how they became so successful so quickly. I got news for you - they didn’t. You may not see all the work they put in - the years of 1% days - but those days happened.

If what you really want can be achieved in just a few days or weeks, then you should want more.

Our journey toward success should never end.

One-percent.

The goals you have in life should be tough to reach. Each day should challenge you. Make just one small improvement. Go one second longer. One yard further. Take one more step.

If you improved 1% every day, imagine how much better you would be a year from today.

Better at your job. Better at your sport. Better at your hobby. Better in your relationships. Better in your preparation. Better in your spiritual life.

Wiser. Stronger. Faster. Tougher. Healthier. Calmer.

Happier.

A better friend. Brother. Sister. Son. Daughter. Husband. Wife. Father. Mother.

A better person.

Start now. Don’t wait.

And I look forward to celebrating each small step with you along the way.
