#1 tip on how to be a better person...

What do you think is in those bags???

I don't think you will be able to guess.

Especially because THIS will be completely off my usual coaching/life-changing/inspirational topics. And yet I hope it will move you!

Those bags are filled in with RUBBISH.

Yes. Rubbish.

That rubbish drivers throw away.

That rubbish people are too lazy to take to the bin.

Perhaps, now you are asking yourself two questions:

  1. Why would I collect it?
  2. Why would I talk about it?

Firstly, just like some of you LOVE my walks! Nothing can be better than being inspired by nature: trees growing off the cliffs and breaking rocks in half, seeing flowers blooming...right in the middle of a dry lava... I love admiring amazing sunsets and meditate somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Where I can see the blue sky, fields stretching forever, lakes reflecting the sun and... feel great! Apart from seeing rubbish right near me. And this is exactly what upsets me so much!

My rule and aim #1 in life is to make a difference. Whether it is a meeting - I always make sure we left with an action plan and uplifted or relieved. If that's meeting someone, just having a phone call - then I make sure it was a productive, quality conversation! (Can you relate?)...

Exactly the same applies to my existence on this planet. I am on the mission to make a difference through transformation. To leave a legacy behind me. To change millions of people lives!... My biggest dream is to reduce the divorce rate in the world...

And yet...when I see the rubbish around me - in the field, forest, on the top of the mountains... I feel like "some" people are not ready for transforming their lives, building better businesses, working on their relationships... etc. They haven't learned rule #1: "leave the place as you would like that to look when you enter", they don't have manners, they haven't learned how to be responsible for the place they are at.

“We deny global warming.
Yet, how can we deny pollution?”
― Anthony T. Hincks

If people can't carry their own rubbish to the bin - what transformation can we talk about?

Our life, our success, our wealth, loving relationships - is a result of simple, daily actions. They are truly very basic. Once we learn how to master basic steps - only then we can move on to the next level. Just like in the Marion Game (do you remember that?) or when you learn how to drive...

Answering your question "why would I collect rubbish" - because I care.

What you give - you get back. Give a good vibe, care, respect, and you will get all of that back.

My friends and hiking buddies - were shocked when they saw me doing that for the first time:

"Don't you feel embarrassed?" and "What people will think of you?"

Those questions I heard every time! The answer is: I don't care! They should feel embarrassed of throwing things away!

Guess what happened 5 minutes later? They joined me!

Now they do the same. That made us laugh (whilst crawling under trees), that made us proud. That connected us. That made us feel we are doing a great job. We made a difference.

Surely you still wonder why would I talk about this... Because I believe in you! I believe you are not one of those throwing rubbish around but The One - looking after nature. The One who can join the forces together and just by taking your litter not only all the way to the top of the hill (wow, well done!) but also back. Just put it back to your pocket. Or a little bag. I believe if you really care about being a better person - then you will pick up at least one piece of rubbish. I believe in YOU. Karma is there and next time you are just about to open your car window and throw something away - just think what if that comes back to you but in a different way? In lack of respect, lack of opportunities, lack of so many other things...

I would love to hear your stories, I would love to see your pictures! Let's do it together!

Here are 5 tips on how to help the environment:

  • In your pocket/rucksack/car have few bin liners or recyclable bags - and just put a few pieces in there... Just a few bits is better than nothing.
  • I would suggest wearing gloves and disinfect your hands regularly. You never know...
  • Safety first! Be careful with dangerous items - it is always better to report them!
  • If you are with kids - they will love the competition on who finds more rubbish! Just come up with the prize and they will go out of their way. Don't forget to praise them!
  • Be REE: Recycle, Educate and Encourage!

Thank you, my dear friends, for supporting me with this and feeling the amazing embarrassment together! Most importantly - thank you for inspiring to write about it!

Become a better person with making a difference to everything around you!

Start small, but play big!

I like taking a cookie to the red ant bed(harvesters ants) being along the highway and with high winds picking up trash is not a difficult job. The ants also like potato chips and nearly any crumbs. I need to watch for the birds and cats as they will snatch away the treat I left. A simple pleasure. I don't give the ants too much too often. It will make them lazy and I may not be able to sustain. A treat once in a while doesn't hurt.

Olga, it was interesting that you had friends who could see picking up the trash of others as a negative. We hold community events where neighbors get together and clear our parks, beaches and open spaces of rubbish. My wife and I can't help ourselves from picking up trash during a walk and putting it in the nearest bin. Occasionally, we will agree not to do this on a walk to better ed enjoy the walk experience, but it is hard.
