The 1 Strategy that’s gonna work 100% of the time

There are so many dang decisions to make when actively looking for a new job, right?
???Should I do a cover letter? ?
?? Is my resume good enough? ?
?? How many places should I apply to? ?
?? Which ones should I apply? ?
?? Should I reach out to the Hiring manager first? or after?? ?
?? Are my stories strong enough? ?
??Which stories should I tell? ?
?? How should I answer the Tell me about yourself question? ?
?? Should I be networking? Should I use Linkedin, Shapr, or Slack groups?? ?
?? Should I go to Chamber of Commerce events or Toastmasters? ?
?? Should I interview for that position even though it’s not totally what I wanted? ?
?? What questions should I ask??

So many options! Which ones are the?“right" ones for you?
When my clients ask me to give an opinion on their decisions, here’s how I know if someone has the RIGHT?strategy.
I ask them two questions: ?
1?? Are you happy doing this strategy, does it feel good, congruent and aligned to you are? ?
2??? Are you getting (or does it look like there’s enough working that you’re on track) to getting the results you want? ?
And then we dive in and look at the answers! ?
If "yes" and "yes", you have the right strategy!
If "no" to one or both questions, you’ve got some creative problem-solving to do.
Show me two successful careers, and I will show you two different opinions on what strategy works best.?
And that’s not bad!?
People are different, different things will work for different people!
When your friend says to you “Do this, THIS WILL WORK!” Always translate that in your head to —> That is what worked for them… (and maybe a few other people that said it worked too)…?
For example, I did some un-orthodox things in my career that others wouldn’t want to do to get the same results.? ?
??♀? My cover letter was REALLY off-beat and said things like “words are cheap” ?
??♀? I asked personal questions like “What do you specifically like about working here and what is YOUR favorite part of your job?” (Always got a smile from the interviewer)... ?
??♀? I talked about a bad experience in an interview with an old boss - Which I backtracked myself out of when I realized I was rambling… (Still got this offer) ?
??♀? Dressed in black jeans and a big sweater for the interview. (Because that’s my preferred style) none of this pantsuit B.S. because that’s just not me. ?
??♀? I didn’t worry or even think about keywords I focused on translating my personality onto that page for the HUMAN that was going to read it? ?
There are, for a fact, TONS of Professionals out there with amazing skills who can give you so many reasons for why each of these things I did, was terrible and I should have never worked! AND trust me I have heard people tell me not to do these things in pretty jarring ways!?

And I’d have gotten more offers and done better if I had: ?
?? Been more “professional” ?
?? If I had asked more “strategic” questions not personal ones? ?
?? If I had not been so colloquial in my cover letter? ?
?? If I’d used keywords to beat the ATS? ?

?? Applied to more places? ?
?? If I had matched my cover letter to the job description ?
?? If I had aimed to convince, and prove myself…?
And you know what? They’re not wrong.
And Also??
I’m so happy with what I did and that I get to tell you about it now because it disproves all of this so perfectly!?
I got 3 competing job offers, I was called out twice for making them laugh on my cover letter.?
In the one I ended up accepting, I turned it down first, and they came back to offer more + Flexibility!?
So in short:?
Happiness and alignment CHECK.
Results I wanted - CHECK.?
DONE.
Truth time: there is literally an infinite number of ways and configurations that could land that six-figure job offer (and many over your career trajectory, this includes promotion interviews, raise conversations and every Strategic, and uncomfortable money-making conversation in between).
What is “right” is what feels good to YOU, and gets you the results you want.
If you got both, you’re a genius. You operate your career like the genius you were meant to be.?
IT’S WORKING.
Don’t let anyone professional, coach, recruiter or WHOEVER badger you into second-guessing yourself.
This is where I consider myself different and loud as a teacher and a coach. I am not here to tell you what to do but to point you in the direction that you want to go and lovingly show you when you’re going off on the wrong path.. To show you when you’re mistakenly ignoring your own brilliance and wisdom, nudge you when you’re not seeing the problem staring you right in the face, helping you to clear a huge glaring roadblock that’s actually easy to move it.
