When I started up my gym X Fitness in 2001 from scratch, not one human being encouraged me. Bank managers, lawyers, accountants, and every person I dealt with discouraged me, warning me that there was no chance of a start-up gym surviving. Everyone warned me that gyms are high-risk startups and that starting up an independent gym from scratch instead of buying a franchise was crazy. One year later, the city that X Fitness was located spiraled into economic depression. X Fitness endured. X Fitness has survived for over 15 years. It has been and continues to be a David versus Goliath commercial fight.
The X Fitness staff researched the causes of success and failure during the past 15 years. We investigated the causes using the same methodology that I have used to analyze winning and losing during 40 years of coaching football. X Fitness staff discovered a number of reasons that cause failure in the fitness business. The main reason threatens the entire fitness industry. X Fitness will publish those results in the future.
