When you sit down to write your resume and LinkedIn profile, you’ll want to list your professional achievements — that includes promotions, which many people forget to mention.

“Promotion history is the thing that I am looking for in resumes and in LinkedIn that I do not think people highlight enough,” says Nolan Church, who’s been a recruiter at companies such as Google and DoorDash and is currently the CEO of talent marketplace Continuum.

Promotions are the “No. 1 predictor of future success,” he says.

Church says he “never” sees people put promotion history on LinkedIn, which can be a cause for suspicion, especially as it pertains to workers who’ve been at a company for a long time.?

There are many people who’ve been at the same place for “five to 10 years with one title,” says Church. “And the assumption I make is, ‘oh, they must not have been getting promotions this whole time.’”

To avoid looking like your career has been stagnant, you should make sure your promotion history is the first thing potential employers see.

"Insightful read to bookmark, CNBC Make It. Nolan Church's emphasis on showcasing one’s promotion history is a crucial reminder for professionals when writing resumes and LinkedIn profiles. I genuinely agree. We have mostly neglected this, including me ???? I may add that while promotions reflect one’s ability to grow and adapt within a role, some career progression isn’t solely defined by upward movement. Many individuals gain valuable skills through lateral moves, diverse projects, or even periods of professional exploration outside traditional corporate structures. I advise clients to showcase promotions and tell their career stories, including how each role or project contributed to their skill set and professional growth. This comprehensive approach accurately represents their potential because it fits today’s dynamic work environments. Somehow, the absence of promotions doesn't necessarily imply stagnation. For instance, in smaller companies or startups, the scope for vertical movement might be slim, but employees often wear multiple hats, gaining a breadth of experience. Thus, putting one's career path in context is key, ensuring potential employers see the complete picture of your professional journey. Bless!

People who are with a company's for a longer time....are considered "Dinosaurs"(usually older workers)-the trend is shorter years-I maintain that we should keep some things off a Resume-let the resume(story) be compelling- so that future employees have to reach out you(for more information) -make your Resume count-make it a compelling story on how you have given "Results"-Always ask on the 1st phone call "what is budgeted salary wise for this Role"-eliminate employers before they eliminate you-your time is of the essence
