Last week I shared how your paranoia will help you close more deals in Q2.

Today I will talk about an additional thing you need to close Q2 strong.?

At this late stage in Q2 or June (if you have monthly targets), new skills won’t necessarily help you right now.

You already have everything you need to close deals in Q2.

The problem is how you direct the most powerful force in our world: your?brain.

It is not an exaggeration to say that your?emotions?and?mindset?will determine your success.

Why does this matter?

You are not alive. You are having a biochemical experience.

Emotions are the currency your brain uses to measure the quality of life's experiences.

This is illustrated below in the 5 stages from sensory to action.

You need emotions to understand the world and what it means to you.

You need emotions to MAKE DECISIONS.

There is a part of your brain called the Orbitofrontal Lobe. It has 2 functions:

  1. Translate signals from the body - feelings
  2. Measure the difference between your current emotions and the emotions you will have if you take action.

I will discuss the 1st one below in the How To Take Action section.

Seriously, why is this important?

Here’s something wild. If your Orbotifrontal Lobe is damaged, you cannot make any decision, from simple decisions like picking up a glass of water to complex decisions.

That is how we know that your?emotions are central to decision-making. It is how you measure value!

So, your emotions can either defeat you or help you succeed.

In his book, To Sell Is Human, Daniel Pink discusses the importance of buoyancy. It is that important!

In these highly-intense periods of quarter/month closes your emotions will be your most powerful weapon. You don’t need new skills; you need the right mindset to serve you, not drag you down.

The right mindset can help you increase:

  • Your focus
  • Your creativity
  • The application of your knowledge
  • Your energy levels
  • Your knowledge recall
  • Your ability to find solutions.
  • It can help you take action to serve you and direct you to succeed.

How to take action

You can change your brain’s biochemistry.

Here are 4 ways to do this. They are all rooted in science.

Physiology

I talked about one of the functions of the Orbitofrontal Lobe: the translation of data about how the body feels. If you are tired, bloated, uncomfortable, energetic, stressed etc, your body sends the signal to the Orbitofrontal Lobe, translating those signals to the brain. This influences how your brain translates how you “feel”.

But you can reverse this!

You can tell your brain how you want your body to feel.

Imagine the body language and pose of someone who embodies the positive qualities you admire, such as confidence, knowledgeable, energetic, focused, happy etc.

Now, move your body in a way that exhibits those qualities. Here are some examples:

  • Pull your shoulders back so your posture is straight
  • Breathe more deeply
  • Smile (so simple yet so powerful!)
  • Focus your eyes on one spot in front of you to increase your brain’s focus
  • Move your eyes laterally from side to side to reduce anxiety and encourage “forward motion” or action.

Start with your physiology.

Language

Words are an expression of thought. Thought precedes action.

If you think about anxiety, insecurity, stress, lack of time, etc., your brain will generate the relevant biochemistry.

Alternatively, ask yourself, “What do I need to achieve by the end of this month? What must I believe about myself to achieve them?”

Now take 3 actions:

  1. Write those beliefs down
  2. Record yourself saying those beliefs
  3. Listen to yourself saying those words every morning.

WARNING - your subconscious will tell you that this is bullshit, that you aren’t those things, or that this is untrue. THIS IS NORMAL. It is your old self fighting for survival.

Which part of you will win?

Focus

All this leads to focus. What you focus on becomes your reality. You can choose. You can focus on danger or opportunity.

I am not saying you should try and see danger as an opportunity. A tiger is still a tiger, and you can’t will it to be less dangerous.

But maybe you can focus on something else. You can draw out a different meaning from the same experience.

I have a powerful exercise that I highly recommend, and it has changed my life. Every time I face a challenging circumstance or a bad experience, I write down 7 reasons why this is a positive experience or 7 ways I can turn this into a positive situation, or 7 things that this experience has taught me that I can use to improve myself.

Use what you have written down to focus your mind. Your brain cannot focus on both the good and the bad simultaneously. You have to choose what you focus on. You can literally change the experience by changing its meaning.

Set intentions

This is powerful.

Before every buyer call, every meeting, every email, or any interaction with your buyer, write down 3 words describing?how you want to show up.

For example, before I wrote this article, I wrote down:

- Relevant

- Actionable

- Game-changing.

Writing down your intentions creates the language you want. The language determines what you focus on. Your focus determines how you act.
