#1 Mistake Professionals Make When Talking to Recruiters
This might be the most important lesson you ever learn about talking to recruiters.
At the start of my career, I was able to secure a graduate role within the recruitment industry, I used the experience and knowledge I learned to fast-track my career and become a senior manager in the retail industry by the time I was 25. I then continued to progress and make a huge impact before I flipped to the other side and became an advocate for YOU, The Ambitious Professional, through my own recruitment and career support businesses.
What I love to do most and what gets me out of bed every day at 5.30 am is sharing the tips, tricks, and secrets to progressing your career, creating stand-out CVs, and working with recruiters to help you understand how you too, can fast track your career and earn the salary that you deserve.
The biggest mistake I see job seekers make when trying to talk to recruiters...
Expecting responses to your emails or a callback….
You're probably checking your email every day for messages from recruiters, especially if you're in the middle of an active job search. But what you're not thinking about is that when that recruiter emails you and says, "are you still available for x roles?" they messaged 10 to 20 other candidates as well, all with the same skill sets as you. So, when you respond and they never message you back, it's easy to think that they ghosted you. But in reality, you just weren't one of the first people to get back to them.

The people who respond to recruiters that same day, usually that same hour, are the ones who get the call or the email back and as soon as recruiters have three to five viable candidates, they're done.
So, you need to check your email several times a day and you need to respond quickly if you want to get on that recruiter's hot list.
Remember this tip when trying to talk to recruiters in your job search. Because really, that's the biggest mistake job seekers make, they don’t respond fast enough. This is why I teach my clients to strategise, to be ready for the call, to have their documents ready to send across, and most importantly their elevator pitch i.e., what they can bring to the table perfected and ready to roll off their tongue.
Once you create a connection with a recruiter and they get you in front of the hiring manager, the rest is history, and you can secure your perfect role.
But remember, those recruiters are the gatekeepers. They're the people that sound you out before employers see you. So, you have to learn how to get them to talk to you. And it starts with you responding quickly to their messages.
