1-Minute Wednesday No. 200: Run Toward Your Calling

Design a Life That Really Matters

?Michelangelo never wanted to paint the Sistine Chapel.?

He was a sculptor, not a painter.?

Initially, he rejected the commission, believing it to be a ploy intended to make him look foolish. But then something inspired him to return and accept. And when he returned, he did so with such dedication to his work that the Sistine Chapel still stands as one of his greatest creative achievements.?

One of the most important points in this story is this: There’s a price to be paid when we run away from what we’re being called to do—not just by us but by everyone around us. Imagine if Michelangelo had never returned—one of the crowning pieces of the Renaissance would not exist.

When we’re not operating at our highest point of contribution, there’s a gap between who we could be and who we are choosing?to be right now.

Michelangelo’s story reminds us that our greatest achievements often lie on the other side of discomfort and doubt.

By identifying and pursuing what truly matters, we can bridge the gap between who we are now and who we have the potential to become—summoning the courage to paint our own masterpieces. ?

Tough to tell the difference between "fear of failure" and "fear of ending up with too many things on my plate."

That inner voice of doubt can be incredibly powerful, but it's essential to recognize that it doesn't define our potential. It's inspiring to see you addressing this topic head-on and offering guidance on finding the courage to push past those barriers. As leaders, it's crucial to confront our fears and embrace the unknown, as that's where growth and transformation truly occur. Great insights from the article! Thank you for sharing.

Our "inner critic" is not our true "voice" -- it's a brain habit of SELF-protection vs an agent of awareness and expansion

It's so true that sometimes we feel like we have to do it all, but embracing essentialism and focusing on what truly matters can make such a difference. One tip that's helped me is to prioritize my tasks each day and tackle the most important ones first. It's amazing how much more I can accomplish when I'm not spreading myself too thin.

I agree, Greg. It's easy to let fear hold us back from pursuing our passions, but as you said, there's a price to pay for not taking action.
