1-Minute Wednesday No. 198: Create Space for Connection

Design a Life That Really Matters

Why do some conversations leave us feeling invigorated and deeply connected while others seem only to skim the surface?

The secret often lies not just in what we discuss—but where and how. Topaz Adizes, founder of The Skin Deep—a platform dedicated to exploring human relationships and crafting connective experiences—believes that we frequently overlook the importance of physical space in our conversations.

But that, he says, is a mistake.

Our environment is one of the first factors that communicate the intentions of a conversation—consider the difference between a conversation held in your office vs. one held in a boardroom, for example.?

When we choose a space that encourages openness and sincerity, we are more likely to have meaningful and deeper conversations. That’s because it signals a sense of psychological safety to our brains, lowering our defenses and fostering more open, authentic connections.?

Try setting an intentional environment for one meaningful conversation this week and see how it goes. You might?find?conversations naturally deepen in such spaces, transforming simple exchanges into moments of real connection. ?

This really resonates with me! Learning to focus on what truly matters is key. I used to feel overwhelmed trying to juggle everything, but practicing essentialism has helped me gain clarity. One thing I've learned is the power of saying "no" to things that aren't aligned with my goals. It frees up space for what's important!
