1-Minute Wednesday No. 197: The Magic of Lifelong Learning
Design a Life That Really Matters
Lifelong learning is the closest thing we have to magic.?
That’s because learning transforms and expands our view of the world, redefining our understanding.?
Lifelong learners constantly question?and explore. They?consider things they?have never considered before. Suddenly, what once seemed impossible becomes possible.?
So why do so many of us choose to stop learning??
Perhaps it’s that our minds crave predictability, finding comfort in stability. As Harvard Medical School professor Jeff Karp put it, “In our lives, we tend to draw solid lines around everything...but in reality, most of them are just dotted lines.”
Lifelong learners find the balance between the solid and dotted lines. They have a foundation upon which to build but the flexibility to redraw and expand their understanding of the world.?
The best way to nurture lifelong learning is to remove distractions, put down technology, and observe. Then, ask questions. Wonder. Follow that thread wherever it may lead.?
