1-Minute Wednesday No. 174 Achieving Effortless Results: Learn the Best of What Others Already Know
Design A Life That Really Matters
When it comes to investing, few have been more successful than Charlie Munger. Since 1978, he’s been?Warren Buffett’s Vice chairman?at Berkshire Hathaway. Together, they’ve created one of the wealthiest companies in the world.?
But Munger didn’t just fall into success. His background in finance made him keenly aware of the importance of leverage - and he knew that principle didn’t only apply to money.?
When asked about his secret to success, Munger replied, “I don’t believe in just sitting down and trying to dream it all up yourself. Nobody’s that smart.”
Munger knew that?to reach his potential, he couldn’t start from square one. He had to leverage the best of what other people already knew.?
Last week , I asked you to think about how your life would be different if you focused on just one essential lever you were underinvesting in.?
For the next several weeks, we will explore specific high-leverage activities you can implement that will have an outsized impact on the goals you are trying to achieve.?
Here’s the first lever: Learn the best of what other people already know.
Here’s how you can pull it: Evaluate and change what you read.?
Reading is one of the highest-leverage activities on earth. For an investment of a few hours, you can gain access to some of the world’s greatest ideas. ? But if most of your reading involves social media or online news sites, you won’t see the same benefit.?
A few years ago, I made a deliberate change in what I was reading. I started reading the classics. The classics, by definition, have stood the test of time.? Right now, I’m reading The Count of Monte Cristo, and I’m amazed at how much of what I am reading applies to multiple areas of my life. The challenges faced and the questions answered are universal. ?
Learning the right thing once is a bargain — a one-time investment of energy upfront yields Effortless Results again and again. ? ?
