A 1 Minute Strategy for Getting Things Done

A 1 Minute Strategy for Getting Things Done

Dear Essentialists,?

Do you have a project where you feel like you're just spinning your wheels?

Maybe you never got started because you didn’t know what step to take first? Or maybe you are so close to the finish line but always find ways to “improve” the project?

No matter the cause, you can move any project forward by becoming clear on what “done” looks like.??

Knowing what “done” looks like is like finding a secret decoder ring.?

When you have a clear picture of where you’re going, it’s easier to get started. The path to completion becomes clear. You’re able to see the first step you need to take (then the next, and the next after that).

It also helps you avoid the endless tinkering trap - raise your hand if you've ever been there. Revision and refining can significantly improve things at first, but after a while the law of diminishing returns sets in. Knowing what “done” looks like lets you get there - then stop.?

With the outcome clear in your mind, you can focus all your resources on making that outcome a reality.?

Define what “done” looks like with 1-minute of clarity:

Think of a project you are currently working on:?

  1. Close your eyes.
  2. Take 60 seconds and visualize what "done" looks like.
  3. Write down the very next step?you need to take.

“If you're not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you've launched too late”

―?Reid Hoffman, Co-Founder of LinkedIn

In gratitude,?

I disagree. You don't need an end goal. Sometimes that will hinder you from starting. Just START.
