The #1 Key to SEO that SEO Companies DON'T Want You to Know

Oh, yeah. This. Is. Happening.

Prominence. It can be found EVERYWHERE on Google. Prominence matters. Your prominence affects your organic rank... even in Google Maps and Map Packs in search. It impacts your click through rate on all website traffic, and your search volume (how many people search for your business).

What is prominence?

Its how well known you are. Is your business a local celebrity, or a hidden gem that people should know about? You can have the greatest products, service, price, installation, brands, etc. It doesn't matter, if no one knows who you are and making a purchase decision with your business takes more thought than ordering a cheeseburger or choosing what cleaning product you want in your home.

Stranger Danger

The greater or more complex the cost of your service or product, the more prominence comes into play. Even if you have great rank, and you are selling furniture, a home service, medical services, legal services (including PI), even a funeral home, prominence matters.

Stranger danger is when you have great rankings but everyone skips past your business because they don't know you and your business has no prominence

No one, even when there is economic confidence, wants to put their precious dollars or trust into the hands of someone they don't know. If you're a stranger to them, they will skip right on past you to a company or brand they know and trust, even if your offer is better. If they come to your website, you better be ready to not only show them why you are better and should choose to use you, but make it so easy and attractive to do business that they can convert with little effort on their behalf. Otherwise all you end up doing is fighting in the ring over price, because you probably sound just like everyone else.

Because of this, Google recognizes trust comes from prominence.

Your good reviews and high branded search volume from other paid marketing (people know you and want to find out more about you or connect with you) plus a great onsite experience equals better rankings in search results, Google Maps and map packs... Even if you aren't the closest location!

How do you build this prominence?

If you know you provide great customer experiences, start by asking for reviews regularly, and responding to them. Even if they aren't the best. Google wants to see you are engaged with being the best and caring for your customers. In fact, one of Google's core marketing concepts is actually Care. Care is a two way street. Your Care motivates positive reviews, repeat customer sales and referrals, and gives value to people where they are at.

Step 2, do what Google says. Its just that easy.

Advertise effectively to tell your story to the right audience at the right time with enough people in your audience to create a revenue response with an ROI. P.S. Google also does this offline, most often on *gasp* TV, because no other media has shown the ability to precisely target so many people in a specific audience, more compellingly than TV. However, there are other options that are great too - radio, display ads, view through video ads, Pandora, OTT and so much more. Search Ads, Google LSA (Local Service Ads) is not a Prominence strategy.

Create a credible, unique and genuine story and share it

Everyone excepts you to have great service, prices and products. No one cares that you are family owned if you are in the service industry. Almost every home improvement service provider is. Own something that sets you apart. Something they don't expect or don't know they can expect. Something no one else can do besides you, for whatever reason. Tie your message, when you can, to something that can substantiate your claims.

This is NOT a billboard on the road, or an on air billboard that shows your logo and says your name. This is not a traffic report sponsored by you on what you think is the coolest, most best radio station. This is when you have great commercials with great placement, that aren't buried in your competition, minuscule audience size or between programs. This is the local community hero you went above and beyond for sharing their story on YouTube that reaffirms yours. This is the struggling single mom that needed a couch to sleep on, but you donated a bed and linens to her for her and a bunk bed for her children in the news, and the radio station you advertise with bringing in their partners to help fill up her fridge as well before Christmas. Be known for something know else can claim, that has lasting impact and value.
