#1 Horegallu || The Stone Bench

Horegallu refers to the stone bench used in villages to rest and restore energy after a day of hard work or while traveling long distances.

The term became famous after the anecdote shared by Sudha Murthy in her book "The Old Man and His God: Discovering the Spirit of India".

I believe Horegallu is more than just a stone bench. It can be anything that helps a person to rest and restore energy to continue their journey. In the modern-day context, it allows a person to avoid burnout while not inducing guilt. I believe we all should find our Horegallu sooner rather than later.

Here, I have tried my best to curate this newsletter keeping the core purpose of a Horegallu in mind. This newsletter will have 4 to 5 sections covering what I have learned or worked on in the past two weeks in Tech and Business. I am open to creative discussions, so feel free to DM me to discuss further

Here we go!

  1. India's Position in AI: Sundar views India as well-positioned in the field of AI, with a large base of developers and engineering talent. He believes that India has the opportunity to leverage AI to solve problems both locally and globally.
  2. Advice for Software Engineers: Sundar emphasizes the importance of understanding technology deeply rather than focusing solely on surface-level knowledge. He encourages programmers to focus on understanding the underlying concepts rather than just learning specific languages or tools.
  3. "Wrapper Startups": Sundar acknowledges the existence of "wrapper startups" that build on top of existing AI models. He suggests that while using APIs is common and acceptable, these startups should add value beyond what the models themselves offer to ensure long-term viability.
  4. Creative Adoption of AI: There is growing enterprise adoption of AI, particularly in creative industries such as marketing and advertising. AI models can offer unique insights and creative solutions, augmenting human creativity rather than replacing it.
