1 Day to Go Until Global Recycling Day 2023

Why Do We Have Global Recycling Day?

Having a designated day annually to bring recycling to the forefront of attention raises awareness of the importance of recycling. There are many days across the year when we take time to think of how we can act towards tackling climate change and reducing our carbon footprints. Recycling is one element of a much larger mission, reducing waste, protecting the environment, and working towards a greener future.?

The day welcomes individuals, businesses, organisations and government bodies worldwide to promote sustainable practices.?

What Do We Do to Be Greener at Marlec??

Our branding may be red and blue, but our thumbs are green.?

- Our green systems team implements solar signage, signage powered by solar. This enables customers to avoid the national grid, source renewable power all year round, and improve safety at night through lighting.?

- Our PV array generates energy powering nearly 50% of our buildings and charges our company vehicles, increasing energy efficiency.?

- Environmentally friendly packaging has reduced our need for non-recyclable materials, encouraging our customers to recycle their packaging and fight against landfill waste.?

- Switching to the world’s first and only carbon-negative toilet paper made from 100% sustainably grown Bamboo pulp enables us to do our bit in the fight against deforestation.

- Replacing our lighting with low-power LEDs has improved our energy efficiency by 50%.

And finally… We Recycle!

What Can You Do to Be Greener and Get Involved?

The fact that you’re here wanting to get involved is a great start. Let’s see what you can do next -

  1. Start small: Big ideas are brilliant, but you’re more likely to make long-term changes to your routine if your actions are small, and practice is vital. Use reusable bags. If you’re always forgetting, you could invest in a small, foldable shopper or keep a large bag in the boot of your car.?
  2. Note the correct method of disposal: E-waste causes a great deal of harm to soil and water. This contamination results in damage to wildlife, stock and crops. Sometimes events happening overseas can feel too far away to do anything about. However, much of our E-waste is sent to international landfills in countries where our food is imported. There’s a cycle to be mindful of. Check the packaging to learn how to dispose of your E-waste safely.?
  3. Speak up: We all spend much of our time online. Could you use your platform to spread the word? Promote the importance of sustainability and recycling and encourage those around you to join in.?
