Go Do That: LinkedIn Tip #1 - Claim Your URL

If you haven't claimed your LinkedIn URL, then the current URL for your profile is something like this: https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/jane-doe-9b4515b8/

This isn't very attractive and is difficult to share. You do have the ability to customize your profile URL, though. Let's take a look at how to do it.

First, make sure you are on your profile page (click on your name). In the upper-right of the page, there is a link which says: Edit public profile & URL. Click on this.

In the upper-right of the new page, there's a section containing a "link icon" & the words: Edit URL. This is where you can find your LinkedIn URL. In order to customize it, click on the pencil icon.

You won't be able to change the first part of the URL, which is www.dhirubhai.net/in/

You are able to customize the ending. I recommend that you try to see if your name is available.

My customized URL, for example, is www.dhirubhai.net/in/oliverschinkten.

Customizing your URL makes it much easier to share it with others whether writing it down, adding it to your email signature, including it on a business card, or any other way. If you haven't already claimed your URL....

Go Do That

Note: There is a good chance that the URL you want is already taken. Once you enter in your customized ending and click on save, it will let you know whether or not the URL you entered is available. If it has been taken, you will receive a message saying: That URL is not available. Try a different URL. If your first choice has been taken, you will have to find a different way to customize your URL. You can try alternatives such as using your last name first, or by adding a middle initial.
