Why did I write this book?

After spending more than thirty years as a corporate executive and business owner, I decided it was time to share some of my successes and failures with other professionals in the hope of helping the next generation of business owners/entrepreneurs to not only survive but thrive professionally and personally.

The sad fact is far too many entrepreneurs and organizations fail. Why? Well, I believe it is because they are not adequately prepared to navigate the swamp of business ownership. As stated above most of us start a business because we are good at something, but that something is only one part of running a successful business. We tend to overextend ourselves, try to juggle too many balls – and unfortunately, most of the balls hit the ground.

What I found is that intelligence, a patent, good people on your team, working 24x7 is NOT the formula for success. You can work like a dog and odds are your business will not survive, or maybe you do survive, but at the price of your personal and family life. Many of us justify spending our life fighting and clawing to get “to the top of our mountain” for our family. Then if you have the good fortune to reach the top of your mountain, you turn around and find the really important things and people in your life may not be there.?
