The #1 Beach in the World...

...in 2011 was Siesta Key, a barrier island off the coast of Sarasota, FL. And one of the top destinations there is Sarasota Surf and Racquet Club, sitting on 13 acres at 5900 Midnight Pass Road. As with any waterfront property, exterior maintenance is a regular occurrence and in 2014 Shane & Associates performed fa?ade surveys on the 12-story Tower Building and the 5-story W and Y Buildings. In addition to the building’s exterior coatings reaching the end of their service-life, the surveys also identified many areas where the stucco was delaminated from the substrate and other areas of corrosion-induced concrete spalling.

     Design-build proposals were solicited from 5 local specialty contractors in February, 2015 and the project was awarded to Spectrum Contracting, Inc. One of the scope items involved soffit vents that were corroding and Spectrum included replacing those vents in lieu of repair, which was one of the reasons the owners found more value in their proposal than those of the other proponents.

     Construction started on August 17th and is scheduled to be completed by December 18th, an aggressive task given the extent of the stucco repairs, which is over 5,000SF, and the size of the project, more than 150 condominium units. Spectrum has been averaging 23 men on site and we are happy to report that the project has been very well-managed and we have had no accidents or incidents to date, which is no small feat on a fully operational resort.
