#1 Action to Improve Every Aspect of Life
For the last couple years I have spent every waking moment of my life seeking the answers. Trying to understand what makes a universal good life and how to create massive impact to live a meaningful & fulfilling life.
This article is for people that are tired of being tired. People that genuinely want to do their best in the world but feel like they have certain limitations that stop them throughout their day.
For me, it felt like I was always trying to move at a 120mph with the pedal to the metal but felt like I was fighting and facing a certain resistance that stopped me from myself.
Nobody is talking about what I'm talking about in this article because this has the potential to take down several trillion dollar lucrative industries making money off people suffering.
I have interviewed over 200 successful individuals on my Top 100 podcast. Everyone knows that you should meditate, have good relationships, exercise, sleep well, have a fulfilling career but there's a fundamental piece of this that is missing.
What is the vehicle in which you do all of these things? Your physical body and thinking mind and you are given them from your birth only once.
The biggest factor in turning my life around at the age of 18/19 was discovering nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Throughout my life I was diagnosed with a chronic illness like most kids these days stemming from autoimmune issues like asthma, rashes, ADHD, sleep, allergies, etc. While food was not the only important factor in my life, it had a massive on my life.
Why? Because believe it or not I learned that food (dietary allergies) is the #1 cause of inflammation and dictates your mood, energy, and depression & anxiety have been shown to be symptoms of an unbalanced diet for some people.
My first breakthrough was discovering Dave Asprey’s Bulletproof diet. Which paved the path for me eating loads of vegetables and healthy fats. My brain felt like it turned on for the first time and even did some experimentation with ketosis which led me extreme mental clarity for a temporary period.
Bulletproof is still a health regiment I recommend, but just like any other diet I don’t recommend it for everyone. In fact, I no longer believe in a universal healthy diet.
It’s not about carbs, gluten, wheat, dairy, soy or going vegan, keto, paleo, etc. These are all pick out of the hat diets, and may be a good start for some but can actually be detrimental towards your life.
To be clear, if you are eating sugar, processed chemicals and packaged crap. You have your answer right there - these are not even foods, in fact our body doesn’t even recognize Red 6 & Blue 40 colorful cancer causing crap in grocery stores as food. If you are somehow looking for the perfect diet and are still eating chemicals & processed “food”, then this article will not help you.
Creating a Real Healthcare System
I then discovered the wonderful, Naveen Jain. A classic american rags to riches story. Born in September of 1959, Naveen was born into an unbelievably impoverished environment in Central India. His father was an honest public servant that never accepted bribes. Government corruption continued to move him and his family to a new city because he didn't comply with the standard bribe situation. Naveen and his family moved to a new village every 6-12 months. Sometimes not eating food for days on end.
Naveen not only became a billionaire shortly after moving to the US but actually founded a space company called Moon Express. Space travel and making humans an interplanetary species is admiral enough, but what’s even better?
Helping sick people today unlike our big obsolete healthcare system. To be clear, we have the best healthcare system in the world for acute responses like injuries in war & accidents and was designed when most people were dying from bacterial infections.
Unfortunately, today most of us suffer from chronic illnesses (Anxiety, Depression, Eczema, Heart Disease, Dementia & Alzheimer's, Autoimmune, Migraines, Allergies, Astha, Cancer, Obesity, Diabetes), a bundle of symptoms we face due to chronic inflammation in our bodies and given a recurring prescription drug from a pharmaceutical company.
For more information about Naveen, I interviewed him on the Humans 2.0 Podcast Episode 139 about his story, moon company and the future of healthcare.
According to Naveen, being sick is not something that should happen to you. All chronic disease comes from chronic inflammation which causes an off balance throughout our entire body from the gut. Chronic sickness is not only preventable but also reversible.
A study funded by Bill Gates & Melinda Gates (Gates Foundation) found that poor diet alone is a risk factor for one in five global deaths, according to the research. Surely, diet must also be the number-one thing taught in medical schools, right?
Sadly, it’s not.
According to the most recent national survey, only a quarter of medical schools offer a single course in nutrition, down from 37 percent thirty years ago. While most of the public evidently considers doctors to be “very credible” sources of nutrition information, 6 out of 7 graduating doctors surveyed felt physicians were inadequately trained to counsel patients about their diets.
Medical students aren't taught about nutrition. According to Naveen they are taught symptom-drug, symptom-drug and have become salespeople for pharmaceutical corporations. The worst part is most drugs actually don't cure the sickness. They suppress the symptoms and spread the inflammation into other areas making you actually more sick in the long run.
The healthcare system is a subscription model that preys on people when they are in their most vulnerable and weak state. Naveen realized this when he saw first hand how his father was treated like a lab rat in his words. This event triggered the birth of Viome - healthcare company unlike no other poised to make chronic illness a choice.
Naveen went on national television and said "pharmaceutical companies have become parasites on humanity. We need to come together and get rid of these bugs."
Imagine a World Where Chronic Illness is Optional
So how do we actually solve this problem?
Note: I am not affiliated with Viome.
According to cutting edge research, the root of chronic inflammation is our micro-biome. The Microbiome is what most researchers are saying now is the origin of our human species millions of years ago. Our bodies have approximately 20,000 human genes that are expressed, the microbiome has 2-20 million bacterial genes and these are the lowest denominator of organisms that grew over millions of years of evolution. We actually have some of this archaic bacteria in our human cells, mitochondria…yes the very thing that provides us with energy throughout the day is an ancient bacteria.
Naveen found a technology created by the US government for National Security in Los Alamos labs also where the atomic bomb was created and through Naveen’s billionaire powers he was able to take that technology and license it and use it to start a company, Viome.
Naveen said “If we find what’s making people sick, can we reverse engineer it to make people healthy?” Viome is the world’s ONLY functional micro-biome test. All of those other ones you heard of are scams and are just stealing people’s money.
Anybody can tell you what bacteria is in you, but Viome is the only tool that can tell you ALL of the bacteria, viruses, yeasts and exactly what they are doing now in your body through their RNA expression. Naveen recruited the world's greatest scientists and artificial intelligence experts to continuously improve the technology.
Through RNA sequencing and revolutionary AI analysis, Viome is capable of seeing everything that's happening in your gut microbiome down to the strain level and what genes are being expressed (which is most important). Viome can even see what your microbes are producing – giving you insight into how they may be affecting you.
Unbalanced Micro-Biome Causes Brain-Fog, Lack of Focus & Energy, Anxiety and even Depression
The main chemical axis that anti-depressant's play on is the Serotonin receptors in the brain. Well, did you know that 90% of the serotonin receptors in our entire body are located in our microbiome?!
There are four major ways your gut microbiome can contribute to anxiety and depression, including:
- By influencing your stress response
- Through making your gut “leaky”
- By causing chronic inflammation
- Through producing harmful peptides
From an early age, your gut microbiome modulates your stress response. As you get older, changes in the health of your gut microbiome affects how you respond to stressors. Understanding how the gut microbiome influences psychological outcomes is powerful, it’s the newest and fastest growing area of research for therapies in psychiatric disorders.
Scientists have found that when there is a change in the composition of the gut microbiome, it can cause problems such as leaky gut. Leaky gut is when the cells lining your gut aren’t stuck together as tightly as they could be, allowing proteins, viruses, bacteria, and more to leak out of the gastrointestinal tract and into the bloodstream.
A leaky gut can cause the ENS (which is mostly in the gut wall) and central nervous system to have a dysfunctional conversation. As you can imagine, these miscommunications can contribute to poor cognitive function and improper emotional responses.
It’s like when you have poor cell reception and you can’t quite hear what the other person is trying to tell you.
Another way gut microbes can influence anxiety and depression is by causing chronic inflammation, which is promoted by harmful microbes. This occurs when these malicious microbes outcompete the beneficial bugs in the gut. When these harmful gut inhabitants takeover and cause inflammation, it can activate the vagus nerve leading to neuropsychological symptoms.
On top of this, harmful bacteria can also create peptides known to send stress signals. These can affect gene expression and your central nervous system – adding to your neurological symptoms. Your gut peptide concentrations are determined by the composition of your gut microbiome, making a healthy gut even more important if you suffer from anxiety or depression.
When people struggle with anxiety and depression, it’s likely that they also have digestive symptoms. All too often, these cognitive and digestive symptoms are thought to be independent of one another, ignoring the important link between the gut and the brain.
Psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression:
- Restlessness
- Heart racing
- Mood swings
- Irritability
- Insomnia
- Nervousness
- Sense of doom
- Being overwhelmed
- Relentless sadness
- Social withdrawal
- Finding comfort in food or drink
Physical symptoms of anxiety and depression:
- Gas
- Bloating
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Brain fog
- Sugar cravings
- Headaches
- Muscle aches and pains
- Weight gain
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Leaky gut syndrome
- Autoimmune conditions
- Serious gut conditions like irritable bowel syndrome
Your gut micro-biome is as unique to you as your fingerprint, but your gut microbiome is dynamic and constantly changing. The trillions of microorganisms living in your gut include bacteria, viruses, yeast, parasites, fungi, bacteriophages and more. We know it's important to boost beneficial microbes while decreasing the harmful ones, but how can you do that without knowing what’s going on in there?
Without fully understanding what's in your gut microbiome, making changes to your diet and life could end up being wasted energy. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.
My Personal Viome Experience
Viome has fundamentally changed my life. I have never had more energy and never felt a stronger connection between my now healthy gut and brain. Our diet is the most powerful tool we have to affect change in the gut microbiome. When you sign up for Viome, you'll receive actionable recommendations so you can start seeing an improvement in your health fast. Personalized nutrition is the future of healthcare.
For me, I was eating what I thought were healthy foods that were actually irritating my micro biome.
My personal weaknesses:
- Almonds
- Oats
- Zucchini
- Spinach
- Bell Peppers
- Walnuts
- Peanuts
- Olives
- Lentils
- Leeks
- Kiwi
- Green Beans
My Superfoods (Heal Gut & Biodiversity)
- Eggs
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Kale
- Kefir
- Lamb
- Lemon
- Sunflower Seeds
- Tarragon
My mind has been blown by Viome - that’s why I’m recommending it to everyone. One of my friends signed up to do the test with me and was diagnosed by a chronic liver illness by his doctor. Viome found out that he actually had two kinds of viruses in his microbiome that get triggered when he eats tomatoes, bell peppers, and pepino melons and immediately shuts down his immune system.
He spent over a hundred thousand dollars on all of the lab tests he could order from his Doctor and not a single one told him he had an overgrowth of this pathogen in his body, yet Viome’s $400 ($300 ref code - friendofnaveen) told him the information and how to start healing his guy day by day.
I believe this is so important because even if you don’t have any health issues, you could potentially have something that could be placing limits on your energy and personal growth. You only have one body. The $300 investment into Viome is invaluable and I would easily pay $10,000 for a similar program.

6 年Mark very well written and interesting article ! You hit many high points. From my experience medical students are not particularly taught about "well care " as much as they are "sick care" . We are trained on how help or heal the sick. However there is an entire specialty of medicine - Preventive medicine that promotes alot of what you discussed but not the specifics of microbiomes. Thanks for bringing Viome to my attention. I will look into it.

6 年Really great article - I’ve been focusing on my diet (food, content and spiritual) and I can’t even explain the difference, it’s night and day. I found food to be such a complicated subject in North America and we’re told such conflicting things from doctors to advertising to the fitness and wellness space - it’s hard to figure out who’s telling the truth and where/how our food was produced. Definitely going to check out Vione!
