In our Center Youth Voice workshop at Missouri AfterSchool Network MOSAC Professional Development Institute (PDI), an anchor resource was Harmony Academy Community Builders.
Terry Atteberry and I asked table groups to choose a community builder that their team would teach the larger group. One group chose "Marching Band" and the result was incredibly joyful and collaborative.
The group leading "Marching Band" lined the class up by height and had them pretend to play an instrument in a parade. They had already used another community builder to choose a class name, Super Stars!
Watching the video of the class, it's awesome to see how fun the experience was for everyone. It brought energy, enthusiasm, and collaboration to the afternoon session.
Even better, it set the stage for a guest speaker (i.e. Grand Marshal of the parade) from BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF POPLAR BLUFF MISSOURI who shared their experience using The Walking Classroom - another one of our #youthvoice resources.
How might you use this activity with students or adults? Drop a note in the comments!
