#08. THE ROOM

#08. THE ROOM

My room is a typical space that includes four walls, a door, and a large window. It also has the necessary furniture to store my essentials. Two months before, the routine use of this room was the use of a bed for overnight sleep, wardrobe for picking up my clothes, use of the mirror to dress up, and that's about it. It was majorly used for only these three activities throughout the day. The condition, orientation, the spacing of the furniture remained the same for weeks. Out of the entire day, the eight hours of sleep and one-hour activity was the only time in which I utilized my room.

In the last two months, I tried to observe and understand the potential of this small space and the flexibility that it provides which I had never noticed before. Since the day lockdown began the first thing I did was to rearrange my furniture as per my comfort. I managed to use my bed as seating space for the table I worked on. I started arranging my electronic devices in such a way that they become convenient for me to use. I eventually started discovering that my room not only had specific furniture but also had some beautiful corners near the window where I could sit and simply sketch my thoughts and ideas. I started shifting my workspace capturing corners all over the room which had some uniqueness of its own. After a few weeks, the room started eventually developing into space which I was totally comfortable in. I doodled random motivational words on one part of my wardrobe, I created an interesting bed back which included my to-do list, I started having compartments and racks for storing books and another stationary. The room has now completely transformed itself into a multifunctional keeping constraint of hygiene at its best.

Today when I look at the space, I totally relate it to myself as it is completely changed into my language of Living. To my realization, I believe that we as human beings always demand bigger rooms, activity-specific areas which are sometimes not required. In the last two months, I have been extremely creative, have tried to explore all my hobbies, experimented with new activities, used my digital platform to its maximum potential, relaxed my mind, taken naps between work, manage to do some exercise and much more.

I strongly believe that it is not 100 or 200 sqft area that defines a room but a space that teaches you to breathe, to experiment, to learn, to explore, and to be at utmost comfort so that one can extract the maximum potential from within. I would like to conclude mentioning that each and everyone must take a small initiative to transform their room into space that reflects about them, that shows every quality of the person using the space, that helps one to be motivated and helps in bringing out the best.
