Hello Everyone,

I wish you all a happy new year 2023. I hope you all had a great celebration and now looking forward to the wonderful year 2023 ahead. I wanted this edition to go live last year, but I had to postpone this edition a little bit. So, hang in tight and read this newsletter edition, where I will recap 2022 and share some insights into 2023.

VMware Explore is back now with an in-person event format!

VMware Explore is one of the biggest tech conferences in the IT world. This was a kick-start of the in-person conferences since the pandemic. This was excellent news for all of us as it allowed us to have first-hand insights into all the great things happening at VMware.

I was fortunate to attend this conference (for the first time) at Gran Via, Barcelona (EU) from 7th – 10th Nov 2022. The first day was primarily focused on registration, collection of swags (Backpack is always the highlight of any VMware Explore event) in the first half and HOLs and Breakout sessions during the second half. Whereas the second day started with the keynote by CEO Raghu Raghuram, and the stage was shared by Sumit Dhawan (President VMware), Dave Morera, Amanda Belvis, William Lam and other key executives from VMware and their customers and partners.

Like any tech conference, there were a lot of new product announcements. Below are some of the major announcements-

  • VMware vSphere 8 and vSAN 8 General Availability
  • vSphere+, vSAN+, and VCF+
  • NetApp FSxN availability for VMC on AWS
  • AV52 instance in new regions for Azure VMware Solution (AVS)
  • Tanzu Standard Support for Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) & Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS)
  • Project Northstar

For all the #viadmins, vSphere is one product we all love the most. We all have started our careers with VMware vSphere, so here I am detailing what’s new with vSphere 8. Please check out the detailed blog post for more information. https://vrealize.wordpress.com/2022/09/07/whats-new-in-vsphere-8/

Great innovations are happening at VMware, and you all must watch out for what’s coming next in the near future. The one key takeaway that VMware wanted us to go with is that multi-cloud is a reality now, and VMware is rightly positioned to help their customers in their multi-cloud journey.

A look back into the community activities in the year 2022!

The in-person local meetups are the core of what we would like to do more often in the times to come.

The past couple of years has been tough for all of us due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since there was no scope for us to host an in-person meetup, we continued our efforts toward hosting virtual events. This is a blessing in disguise because it allows us to connect with some of the great minds via a webinar, irrespective of wherever they are located.

In the year 2022, we have been successful in hosting five meetups. During these meetups, we could chat about some excellent topics ranging from core SDDC, AI/ML, multi-cloud and automation. We also had the opportunity to resume our in-person meetup and hosted our first-ever in-person meetup post COVID-19. Kudos to our partner Varun Verma from Veritas for hosting a tremendous in-person meetup. Also, I would like to say thank you to each one of our community members. None of this is possible without you guys participating and supporting us. Thank you for all you do at VMUG Pune.

Save the date 21 January 2023

I am happy to share that we are kick-starting the new year with another in-person meetup. This time the event is happening at VMware Office, Balewadi Pune. This time we are keeping some core topics in the event agenda, such as what's new with vSphere 8 by Gurudatt Pai , vSphere + by Ajay Sharma and an introduction to vSAN Express Storage architecture by Arpita Mahajan . We are also happy to have VIKAS SHITOLE with us, who will present on the VMware Tanzu overview.

Below is the detailed agenda for you to see.
