#01, #Kick-Off Meeting
#launch of the EC-funded project "Certification for Ethical and Regulatory Transparency in Artificial Intelligence (CERTAIN)", #HORIZON-CL4-2024-DATA-01
We are thrilled to announce INCOM’s participation in the Kick-Off Meeting of the launch of the EC-funded project "Certification for Ethical and Regulatory Transparency in Artificial Intelligence (CERTAIN)", HORIZON-CL4-2024-DATA-01. We are proud to be part of a #consortium led by IDEMIA Identity & Security, France and esteemed partners of the consortium (EU Universities, Research Institutes, IT Software companies, financial institution, etc).
The CERTAIN project aims to create a cohesive and compliant ecosystem for AI stakeholders, fostering trust, transparency, and innovation in the European data economy. Through collaboration and standardisation, aim to empower organisations to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, embrace cutting-edge technologies, and drive sustainable growth in the data market and AI sector.
INCOM will contribute to several Working Packages as partner and co-leader in the WPs, and contributor in Pilots which are:
WP 3: Legal, ethical and societal aspects. The objective is to establish a comprehensive basis of research and compliance literature in one place for internal and external use, as well as to leverage that research to create multidisciplinary guidelines for compliance. This includes ethical and social considerations on top of legal compliance. These guidelines will once again be used both internally and disseminated externally, with the goal of responsibly removing administrative and regulatory burdens for organisations providing or in some way dealing with data.
WP 4: Tools for Data Holders & Dataspaces. The objective is to provide tools and techniques for trusted, interoperable and secure exchange of data through a data spaces infrastructure. The data space will provide connectors and interfaces for both data holders and data consumers, along with tools and techniques for regulatory compliance in-line with a RegOps paradigm.
WP 5: Tools for AI providers, buyers, and users. The primary objective is to establish a comprehensive infrastructure for certifying and deploying AI systems, emphasising legal and ethical aspects, rigorous testing, and energy efficiency. This involves advancing synthetic test data generation, crafting trustworthiness testing algorithms, developing ontologies for transparent data management, building a Semantic MLOps Engine, designing tools for energy-efficient AI, and creating a concise compliance framework.
WP7: Pilots to experiment tools and certification. The objective is to i) to strictly define the scope and the exact requirements for each pilot; ii) to deliver a co-creation and co-design methodology to support tech. development and scientific WPs; iii) to organise, deploy and operate the pilots to validate the project’s concepts; iv) to evaluate pilot results based on the measurable KPIs; v) identify and model stakeholder, societal, environmental and socioeconomic impacts of provided solutions deployment; vi) identify policy and operational risks and potential benefits of project deployment and devise a set of guiding policy recommendations.

WP8: Communication, dissemination, exploitation and standards. The objective is to maximise the project's impact and visibility by coordinating communication, dissemination, exploitation, and standardisation strategies. This includes sharing project results and methods with targeted audiences to facilitate knowledge transfer. Tailored dissemination activities ensure broad distribution of research outputs. Collaboration with industry partners encourages integration of the certification framework into AI development processes. Additionally, collaboration with standards organisations aims to promote adoption of certification approaches. Strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement aim to leverage the project's advancements, positioning the EU as a leader in ethical AI development.
