ITADAKIMASU／いただきます（"Approaching the roots of Japanese-Mind-Culture"）

According to the respected Mr. Rokusuke Ei,

The word "ITADAKIMASU" is omitted and actually means,

“I will take your life.”

That seems to be the case.

Indeed, in exchange for the lives of countless living beings, I've survived this far???

Nayabashi Market (Nagoya City) was full of activity during the year-end and New Year holidays.

When I suddenly stopped in front of a live fish specialty store, the store clerk was severing the major artery and spinal cord the sea bream with practiced skill. (Japanese call that "SHIMERU.")

He held the sea bream which is tail fluttering with his left hand, and when something like a long thin wire was inserted into its body through its mouth, the sea bream stopped moving at once.

Until that sea bream was brought here, it may have been the peak of happiness with my beloved another one.

It may have been swam freely in the ocean, and the future may have been full of brightness.

Even in a small cage, It may have been believed that someday It will be able to embraced by nature again.

It may have never forgotten his desire to live out his life.

Taking away all living things' hopes and dreams, I have been allowed to survive even though I have devoured life.

I heard that the Ainu people use up all the seals they catch.

It is an expression of gratitude to all living things from the Ainu people, it contains a promise to nature and the vow made by themselves that they don't greedy more than necessary.

Relentlessly from my father and mother and even at school, I was taught that "Eat leaving nothing left over."

I'm sure it had meaning that, I think now.

I would like to point out that people who call themselves "Vegetarians'' because of the resistance to killing animals are wrong.

Flowers that bloom all at once and the activity of dispersing itself and returning to the soil to become food for the next life, this is truly the work of all living things.

It's not different that "Vegetarians" are greedy for the living things, too.

Now, I'm next.

The life I received has allowed me to live this far.

Now it's my turn to give my life to those who need it.

We must not to say "My life is mine alone.''

Making selfish claims is not allowed, because I also one of the all living things.

私は既に「臓器提供カード」にサインした。

「私のような腐った魂の臓器でも、

使えるものがあるのなら全て使って下さい。」という思いである。

身内に反対する者がいるかもしれないが、

死と引き換えの願い事だ、何とか同意して欲しいと思う。

尊敬する永六輔氏によれば、

「いただきます」とは言葉が省略されていて、本当は、

「あなたの命をいただきます」

なのだそうだ。

確かに私は、数え切れない程の生きとし生けるものの命と引き換えに、

ここまで生き延びてきた???

年末年始の納屋橋市場には活気が溢れていた。

ふと活き魚専門店の前で立ち止まると、

店員が慣れた手つきで鯛を絞めていた。

尾びれをバタバタさせる鯛を左手で押さえ、

細長い針金の様なものを口から体に刺し込むと動かなくなった。

あの鯛はここへ運ばれてくる迄、

最愛のメスと幸せの絶頂だったかもしれない。

大海原を自由に泳ぎ回り、

前途は明るさに満ちていたかもしれない。

狭い生簀の中でも、いつかもう一度自然に抱かれて、

生涯を全うする希望を忘れなかったかもしれない。

あの鯛の希望や夢を奪い、

命を貪っても私は生き延びる事を許されてきた。

アイヌの人々は、獲ったアザラシを全て使い切ると聞いた。

それは他の命と引き換えに生き延びていく者からの感謝の表れであり、

必要以上には貪らないという、

自然との約束や自らの誓いが込められている。

父や母から、そして学校でも執拗に

「食事を残してはいけない」と教えられたのは、

きっとそんな意味が込められていたのだ、と今更乍らしみじみ思う。

動物への殺傷の抵抗感から、

「ベジタリアン」を自称する人には間違いを指摘したい。

一斉に命の限り咲く花、

自ら散り、土に還る事で次の命の糧となる営みは、

まさに生きとし生けるものの仕業である。

ベジタリアンとて命を貪っている事には変わりない。

さぁ、次は私だ。

頂いた命でここまで生かせて貰った。

今度は私の命を必要とする人達に捧げる番だ。

私だけが、「自分の命は自分だけのものだ。」などと

自分勝手な主張をする事は許されない。
