?????, ????, ????- A Maker's escapade! Chapter 4: Fixing #MoralCompass with #PublicNarrative at #Harvard! #Magic, #Mentorship & #Marvel Movies!

Inspirations from the #Marvel Movies

Dr. Ho Yinsen

"Thank you for saving me." ...."Don't waste it. Don't waste your life." - Tony Stark and Ho Yinsen, Iron Man 1

Dr. Ho Yinsen is a fictional character of MCU, a renowned scientist and surgeon, from a fictional village named Gulmira in Afghanistan. He made the first #Electromagnet chestpiece to save Tony Stark, and helped him build the first #IronMan suit - MK1, which ultimately helped him escape captivity and set him on the path of becoming a superhero.

However, Yinsen did not just teach Stark how to build the suit, he also instilled in him a sense of purpose and responsibility. He reminded Stark that his wealth and knowledge came with a great responsibility to use it for the betterment of society. The fellow captive helped Stark see the error of his ways and provided him with a new perspective on life.

Yinsen's mentoring played a crucial role in Stark's transformation into a hero. He taught him important lessons about responsibility, purpose, and the value of life, which Stark carried with him throughout his journey as Iron Man. Yinsen was crucial in transforming Stark from a selfish, egotistical arms dealer to a selfless hero who used his technological prowess to save the world.

A humble family man who was the polar opposite of Stark in Iron Man 1. But, in #Avengers #Endgame , Stark became Yinsen, finally giving up his life for his kind like Yinsen did for him in the past.

Maybe Tony did meet Yinsen in the afterlife...

Dr. Abraham Erskine

"Whatever happens tomorrow, you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." - Abraham Erskine to Steve Rogers, Captain America 1.

In Captain America: The First Avenger, Dr. Abraham Erskine, a fictionalGerman scientist, was responsible for creating the Super-Soldier serum that transformed Rogers from a scrawny young man into the super soldier, Captain America.

Like Yinsen, Erskine's mentoring was not just about physical transformation but also about instilling values that would help Rogers become a true hero.

Erskine was looking for character in a soldier. Rogers' demonstration of courage, determination, and selflessness moved the scientist. He challenged Rogers to be more than just a soldier, to use his strength to protect the innocent and to fight for what is right. Erskine's most impactful line to Rogers was, "The strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows compassion."

Erskine also taught Rogers important lessons about humility and sacrifice. He explained to him that the Super-Soldier serum would not just enhance his physical attributes but also magnify his inner qualities, both good and bad. Therefore, Rogers had to remain humble and remember that his power came with great responsibility.

Another humble man with foresight who nurtured Steve's leadership skills with modesty. He taught the 'man out of time' that sometimes one needs to do what's necessary, even if people misunderstand you. Rogers planted himself like a tree in Captain America: Civil War to save his friend and continued to perform the hard acts throughout his time in the #MCU .

Sometimes, we forget to be humble, to be modest. Maybe during these times, we could take a deep breath, pause, and walk back a few steps from the canvas to see the whole painting - the Vision. Maybe, just nudge ourselves to remember our mentors. It's not easy, its very tough!

We always seek the path of least resistance. And this is our #ImmunitytoChange , which cripples the #GrowthMindset .

#LeadingChange at Harvard Graduate School of Education inspires #changemakers and #thoughtleaders to master the art of #GrowthMindset . Only then we would be able to channelize the inner storm from doing destructive activities to constructive activities, prevent burning the bridges to mend relationships.

Earlier last semester, I took part in the #PublicNarrative class at Harvard Kennedy School by the legendary professor Marshall Ganz . An emotionally challenging experience, making me realize how my redemptive and pure learning philosophy was corrupted and contaminated due to my own limitations.

A section of 15 strangers, meeting every thursday, in a classroom on the third floor of #HarvardKennedySchool became a family of 15 people, sharing and caring for each other till the end. We call ourselves - #SpiritualJellos !

I was very upset about taking the #PublicNarrative class and not taking my dream #Makerspace class - How to Make Almost Anything. People around me used to tell me that I am already a #Maker and I don't need that class.

But last week, something magical happened! A conversation with a friend and a fellow #Maker , Rehana Al-Soltane made me realize that I did take the 'How to Make' class. "Ronak, If you think, Pubic Narrative was your How to Make(write) inspiring stories of tinkering and making!"

At 美国哈佛大学 , you are not always given what you want, but you are always given what you need!

And, as always!

#HappyTinkering

#MakersGonnaMake

PS: These are my personal takeaways from the #Marvel #Movies , and despite of their very short time on-screen, I attempt to reflect on the mentorship moments and the impact #Yinsen and #Erskine created on #TonyStark #IronMan and #SteveRogers #CaptainAmerica

The first three chapters of '?????, ????, ????' series were such a treat to read. As an international student in Hong Kong, I could relate with so many things you mentioned especially in Chapter three. Excited to read this one!
