We were young at the beginning of the blessed renaissance in the Sultanate of Oman in the seventies of the last century. From our childhood, we grew up knowing specific professions that we used to hear and see about sometimes. Our dreams at that time hovered around the jobs of the policeman, teacher, trader, and some professions that we think the world is confined to. With the passage of years, we discovered many new jobs that were not stuck in our minds until we graduated and made our way in life.
Most of the professions were practical without the presence of advanced technology through which we could perform our work easily and smoothly. The typewriter is unlike a computer, and the antenna (Ariel) is unlike a satellite dish. Even the telephone has developed through the years to the point that it serves us and implements most of our scientific, financial, and entertainment needs. Then the Internet revolution has changed many things, and the world has become a "screen".
Time continued to pass and the term "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" came to us, in the sense of providing machines and applications that perform complex tasks and can think of many options like humans, and reach the degree of proficiency in some tasks that humans who are governed by emotions, fatigue, and exhaustion may get tired of performing. Many governmental and private institutions diverted their way of thinking, they tended to use devices to help people, and with the development of time, the trend began to replace some professions and introduce radical changes to them until it reached the point of dispensing with people in some professions, such as the postman as an example. The entry of AI into the world of professions, and intelligent applications such as the "GPT" conversation application and many others, have worked to bring about a radical change in professions by canceling and creating, changing the tasks of some current jobs and retaining titles, and that almost all jobs will be affected by the entry of modern technology in one way or another, and that technology triumphs in every field it enters and performs tasks at a lower cost and with a higher quality.
The World Economic Forum report (2023) sounded the alarm that the global labor market would be affected by massive disruptions over the next five years. The report expects the creation of 69 million new jobs by 2027 and the abolition of 83 million jobs. In an online article dated 1/5/2023, the CEO of the (IBM) announced the trend to lay off a third of its employees due to AI, specifically cutting (7,800) jobs and replacing them over five years with AI and automated work, which heralds an inevitably coming change according to each organization and its needs of intelligence. Artificial Intelligence will redraw the jobs map for the coming years. Decision-makers in countries and the concerned authorities for education, training, and employment must pay attention to the coming period and to changing professions that include, for example, military, industrial, scientific, civil, and medical fields, as the American billionaire Mark Cuban expressed that he There is currently "a whole generation studying jobs that don't exist" and graduating, and within a few years, the graduates will discover that they are "dinosaurs", which means that some jobs will be old fashion.
The question remains: Are we ready to study the upcoming change, are we prepared as parents and in our educational and training institutions at all levels of school, university and vocational institutions for the coming change? or are we waiting for what others achieve to follow them?. Study the "professions of the future", and define the precise relationship between the public and private economic sector and future directions; the preparation of the "Occupational Classification and Description" and the creation of a "National Center for Guidance and Counseling" to create the appropriate culture for the next generation are among the most important factors for providing the environment and upcoming professions that are compatible with the forthcoming Artificial Intelligence at a significant acceleration.
