The Cephus Catheter is the only FDA cleared double- balloon rectal catheter available for clinical application. This catheter is used in colorectal procedures, including intussusception reduction, barium enema, virtual colonoscopy, rectal contrast CT scan, and mucous fistula re-feed. The novelty of this technology is the use of a second balloon to create a tighter seal than single- balloon catheters. The external balloon inflates to create a form-fitting seal against the ridge of the anus, while the internal balloon occludes the rectum and holds the catheter in place during the procedure. The result is an optimal rectal seal that conforms to the individual patient. This seal will decrease the procedure time, improve the efficacy and proficiency of the procedure, and reduce the number of technical staff required during the procedure.
