Many people face stigma when talking about mental health issues like depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts. Taking the first step could be as simple as sending a text. Share these resources to help others find a comfortable way to seek support. By texting Crisis Text Line, "a live, trained volunteer Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool calm." (Crisis Text Line website) Crisis Counselors at the Trevor project are trained to answer texts "from LBGTQ+ young people who reach out on our free, confidential and secure 24/7 service when they are struggling with issues such as coming out, LGBTQ+ identity, depression, and suicide." Today, on World Mental Health Day, it is essential to talk about the importance of this issue, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. Many people in this community face discrimination and LGBTQ+phobia, which deeply impacts their mental health, regardless of age or social class. Exclusion, rejection, and prejudice can lead to anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. It is crucial to raise awareness and eliminate the taboos that still surround conversations about mental health. Openly discussing it in our homes, workplaces, and society is vital. Education and access to information enable people to understand how to act, how to provide support, and how to be part of the solution. On this World Mental Health Day, let’s remember that the fight for equality is also a fight for mental health, and we must support those who need it the most. *if you or someone you know is struggling emotionally, or has concerns about their mental health please you can call, yext or chat online with your local emergency health service. #worldmentalhealthday #mentalhealthmatters #lgbtqmentalhealth #breakthestigma #endmentalhealthstigma #youarenotalone #loveyourself #mentalhealthawareness #supportlgbtq #fightdiscrimination #mentalhealthsupport #selfcarematters #speakupformentalhealth #protectyourmind #endthetaboo

Happy Pride Month! Coming right after Mental Health Awareness Month, now seems like a good time to remind everyone that gender-affirming care and providing safe spaces to all members of the LGBTQ+ community can quite literally be life-saving. As a dietitian, have you sought out CEUs specifically to learn how to care for these special populations? Are you aware of the increased risk of mental health struggles and body image disturbances that can come from both inside and outside of the community? If you're a member of the Academy, there is some training available there. Many eating disorder facilities have free resources as well. DEI training as a whole is important. Outside of CEUs, who are you following on social media? Have you intentionally sought out diverse creators? If not, why? #pridemonth #pride2024 #diversitymatters #mentalhealthmatters #dietitian #mentalhealthnutrition
