Thanks for sharing Victoria Wratten. This advert is proof that so many organisations don't truly understand the role of an Assistant. They advertise it as an Executive Assistant Role. Yet they say it's a Junior Entry Level role. Then it isn't truly an Executive Assistant role. An EA role is a strategic business partnership with your Executive. It is rarely an entry level role. Lucy Brazier OBE launched the Global Skills Matrix a few years back to try and address this situation and it still needs to be addressed with many organisations and HR departments. As an recruiter you need to ensure you understand the role you are recruiting. Don't devalue the role because you don't understand it. Don't just throw a title to a role because you don't understand it. Lucy is more than happy to discuss this with HR Departments to ensure that companies understand the role of an Asisstant and the benefits they being to your organisation if you use and utilise them correctly. And value their contribution. I feel I work more as an EA now that I ever did Corporately because of the experience of running my own Business. The understanding of the decision making. Making decisions when it's your own money makes you view things differently. It's easy to spend money when its not yours! Companies. Do better. Do better for your Assistants. Sign up your organisation to Executive and Personal Assistants Association and Executive Support Media and ensure you are developing your Assistant community. Allow them to be the best they can be and development them through the roles. You'd do this for your HR Team. Your Marketing Team. Why not your Assistants? One of the reasons I chose to work for myself as a Freelance Assistant is because of scenarios just like this. (That and the commute!). Oh and the fact is advertised a competitive salary is just a whole other post. If its that competitive state it!! Don't waste my time or yours.

Corporations/Businesses please STOP posting "Entry-Level Event Coordinator" positions.. it's utterly preposterous. There's literally no such thing... That's like posting an "Entry Level CFO" position. What we do is organize absolute chaos from a logistical and operational front, across dozens of departments for events that are sometimes for thousands of attendees. There is nothing "Entry Level" about it. End Rant.... Enjoy your day.

Most law students I meet with are unwilling to start as an assistant to build the skills they need to do entertainment business and legal affairs at a high level. Don't be that student. Shadowing a senior business affairs executive as an assistant for 1 year will teach the the verbal lexicon and speed that you need to do this job right... I know A LOT of smart attorneys who want to practice entertainment law.
