I use this AutoHotkey script both on my home and work setup. It is pretty simple but works surprisingly well: it switches the keyboard to an alternate mode when you hold CapsLock down. Alt mode places navigation and modifier keys near the home row, meaning you can execute any (reasonable) shortcut without leaving your hand resting position! Protip: add a small delay to the deactivation of modifiers. This way you can do Ctrl-S (even though S is remapped in alt mode) by quickly releasing the CapsLock with your pinky finger.
