Beginning October 1st, we honor survivors and remember victims of Domestic Violence, recognizing National Domestic Violence Awareness Month since 1989. Let’s raise awareness and be a voice for the victims of this prevalent issue affecting everyone, irrespective of age, gender, race, or socio-economic status. Domestic violence, often involving physical and emotional abuse, is a systemic pattern of dominance that can lead to severe consequences, including physical injury, trauma, and sadly, death. Despite progress, statistics show that more than 10 million individuals are abused annually by intimate partners, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and advocacy. It’s alarming to note that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced physical abuse from an intimate partner, emphasizing the far-reaching impacts of domestic violence on individuals and families. Let’s stand together to break the cycle and provide support for those in need. Women’s HQ, headquartered in Washington, DC, offers valuable advocacy services, resources, and support, mental health programs, and more. Let’s work towards a future free from domestic violence, where every individual feels safe and protected. #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence

We were delighted with the reviews of our new play, The Bruise You Can't See, which was performed at the Colchester Fringe. Plays that tackle domestic abuse, both physical and mental, are so important because they shed light on a deeply personal yet widely prevalent issue that is often hidden behind closed doors. As a theatre company, we have a unique power to evoke empathy and awareness by bringing audiences face-to-face with the human side of this social problem. This allows for an emotional connection that statistics or news reports might not fully convey. When audiences witness the experiences, struggles, and resilience of characters affected by domestic abuse, it opens a path to understanding and compassion that can inspire social change. Our play strives to raise awareness about the signs and complexities of abusive relationships, emphasising how they impact not only the individuals directly involved but also families, communities, and society at large. They provide a safe space to explore difficult questions about control, power dynamics, psychological trauma, and societal stigmas. Moreover, plays about domestic violence often challenge stereotypes and misconceptions, helping to reduce the shame that many survivors feel and showing that they are not alone. Our hope is that this will encourage survivors to seek help and inspire audience members to become allies in supporting anti-violence initiatives, understanding that domestic abuse isn't an isolated or "personal" issue, it's a collective one. By bringing these stories to the forefront, theatre helps cultivate a more informed, compassionate, and proactive society, reminding us all that awareness and dialogue are the first steps toward meaningful change. If you saw the show do leave us a review. #domesticabuse #domesticviolence #VAWG #awarenessdomesticviolence

???? Reflections on "It Ends with Us": A Powerful Narrative on Domestic Violence???? Having recently read Colleen Hoover's “It Ends with Us” and watched its film adaptation, I am deeply moved by the significance of this story. It casts a spotlight on a delicate yet crucial issue: domestic violence and its lingering impact on survivors and their families. ??Domestic violence does not only afflict those who are at the receiving end of the abuse; its repercussions extend far beyond, affecting children who witness this turmoil. The scars left behind can manifest into long-lasting trauma, shaping their perceptions of love, relationships, and emotional safety. Both the book and film tackle the complexities surrounding interpersonal dynamics, illustrating the often hidden struggles faced by individuals trapped in cycles of abuse. The bravery it takes to confront such painful realities is monumental, and platforms like these remind us of the importance of compassion, understanding, and awareness. Here’s why this topic needs our urgent attention: 1. ??Awareness & Education: Many people may not recognize the signs of domestic violence or understand its enduring effects. By fostering open conversations, we can promote education about this pressing social issue. 2. ??Support Systems: It’s crucial for survivors to know that they are not alone. Providing resources and establishing support networks can empower individuals to seek help and break the cycle. 3. ??Advocacy for Change: We must advocate for policies and programs that address domestic violence and provide for the well-being of those affected. ?? Each one of us plays a role in either perpetuating or confronting this narrative. Let's foster a culture of respect, empathy, and support for those affected by domestic violence. ?? If you or someone you know is in need of help, please reach out to local domestic violence resources for support. Together, you can work toward a future where stories like “It Ends with Us” become catalysts for change, rather than reflections of our reality. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #ItEndsWithUs #EmpathyInAction #SupportSurvivors #BreakTheCycle

Domestic and family violence profoundly impacts children and young people, often leading to long-term psychological and emotional trauma. Aiming to break the cycle, Ruby is one of many young people advocating for improving outcomes for young people experiencing domestic and family violence. Kids of Purple, founded by Ruby, aims to provide young people with the tools to seek help. Ruby's speech at our 2024 Youth Summit was, and remains, a call to action. I encourage you to take the time to watch her full speech - Visit: qfcc.qld.gov.au/Ruby Shockingly, in 2020-21, more than 10,000 children and young people were directly involved in domestic and family violence incidents reported to Queensland police. These experiences can have detrimental effects on their mental health, academic performance and social relationships. Additionally, witnessing violence in the home can perpetuate intergenerational cycles of abuse. Indeed, children and young people who witness violence become victims in their own right. Recognising this, Queensland has implemented services to support victims of domestic and family violence, but more can be done for young victims. #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth

Chicago violence must be addressed from both macro and micro perspectives. The recent incident hits close to home, occurring on the corner of my father's block when I had just left his house. The area, known for its tranquility and iconic Frank Lloyd Wright home, was marred by this tragic event. It's evident in the news coverage, showing my truck parked in front of my father's house. This heartbreaking reality underscores the urgent need to tackle violence effectively. We must focus on addressing the social determinants of health and the impact of trauma on individuals, especially children, and the broader community. To combat this pervasive issue, we must work collectively to implement real solutions that enhance resilience in marginalized communities. Key areas that require attention include domestic violence, healthcare accessibility, food insecurity, educational support, mentorship programs, trauma interventions, housing adequacy, disease management, mental health services, and community engagement. It's imperative that we join forces to take decisive action and create a safer environment for all. Together, we can make a difference by addressing these critical issues and fostering a more resilient and equitable society. #ViolencePrevention #CommunityResilience #SocialJustice

Question: How much do you care about domestic abuse? In my recovery from an abusive relationship, I realised pretty early on that many workplaces are not equipped with the skills and empathy needed to support survivors of abuse. We don't know how to talk about it. We may know how to spot obvious signs, but not the hidden ones. We don't understand the complex nature of abuse or how it rewires the brain. So since then, I've made it my business to educate others on how to truly support survivors in the workplace by offering them something they almost certainly will not be getting at home: a safe space. If you need help or guidance on how to do this, my door is always open. Or you can read my article for Champion Health here ?? https://lnkd.in/eFYDgF59 #domesticabuse #domesticabuseawareness #mentalhealth
