How do we make a Dare to Dream? match? ? ?? Case Managers at Cleveland Angels have the honor of meeting with each youth referred to our Dare to Dream? program. This gives us the opportunity to get to know the youths' unique personality, dreams, goals, and interests. It also lets us better understand what THEY want out of a mentoring relationship, as well as qualities they would like for their mentor to have. ?? When someone applies to be a Dare to Dream? Mentor, we have an in-depth conversation about the program and the expectations that come with it. We also get to know the volunteers' interests, background, reasoning for wanting to become a mentor, as well as what age group they would be interested in mentoring. Being intentional about how we match in our programs is what makes our matches so sustainable and meaningful. ? At Root 2 Rise, we believe in nurturing the next generation of leaders by providing high school students with immersive teaching experiences in K-8 classrooms. Since 2017, our partnerships with Wisconsin and Oregon school districts have empowered over 300 high school students to serve as academic tutors and behavioral mentors, positively impacting the lives of more than 6,000 younger students. Diverse representation in these roles is crucial. When younger students see mentors who look like them, it fosters a sense of belonging and aspiration. Isaac A., a tutor-mentor from 2024, shared, "It’s life changing just seeing the impact that you could have on such a young group of kids." Most students today are in school not because they want to be, but because they’re told to be. Many are there because their parents insist on it, or because their friends are there. They haven’t yet found the fire within. They don’t have a reason, a sense of purpose driving them. This lack of direction isn’t just a problem—it’s a missed opportunity. Without discovering what truly excites them, these students are simply going through the motions, missing out on their chance to change the world. At Hilth Foundation, we believe every student deserves more. They deserve to discover what drives them, what makes them feel alive, and what they were put on this Earth to do.
