I was laid off 15 months ago. Instead of looking for another job, I decided to go full time on an app that I had been working on in my free time. The app would end up being the culmination of what I have been working on for the last decade and be the hardest thing I have ever worked on. Moira is an app about understanding yourself and the world around you. You play a character where you can make choices in their life and use the A.I. to simulate into the future to see what has happened to the world. The world and your character are procedurally generated so everyone’s experience will be unique. The app is pretty simple right now, but I have a lot of features planned for it. The hope is to give you an experience of what our future with technology could look like. Moira is now available on iOS! y'all seem to like my nerdy little posts so here's another one! In the last installment, you saw that I got count timers working with pause / resume and stop. And because they are built natively they don't have any impact on the React natives thread so there's little burden on performance which is super important because a couple of these could be running at anyone time Imagine doing a workout, you need to track times for - The whole workout - The whole rest - The time for the set you're working on - The time for the rest of the set you're working on Today, i've implemented the reverse! the pinnacle of technology! a stop watch! It can either run until it's stopped or have a limit placed on it. Stopwatches are probably going to be more common across the app, but I can see a few uses for timers too. They're not 100% accurate, timing in Android (atleast) is based on a tick rate and can be impacted by system lag among other things. I've targeted a tick rate of 50ms, so they should never drift too far out unless the system is under duress. Enjoy!
