It’s honestly surprising – and a little disheartening – to see the lack of interest in supporting a project that could have such a transformative impact on young people across the Midlands. We’re in a region filled with some of the most innovative and profitable organisations in the country, yet the enthusiasm to give back to the community through initiatives like this seems to be missing. Where are the forward-thinking, community-orientated business leaders who truly want to leave a legacy? This is an opportunity to empower thousands of youngsters, improve their physical and mental health, and inspire them to reach their full potential. It’s about so much more than just table tennis—it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence, and shaping the future of our region. The Jack Petchey Foundation has proven how successful this kind of initiative can be in London and Essex. Why can’t we replicate that here in the Midlands? Surely, there’s a business leader out there who understands that the biggest impact isn’t just measured in profits but in the difference they make to people’s lives. If we’re serious about building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities, now is the time to step up. Let’s not let this opportunity slip away! #TableTennis #MidlandsInspiration #NextGeneration #YouthDevelopment #JackPetcheyFoundation #SportsForAll #Midlands #Midlandsmanufacturing #midlandbusiness #inspirationalleaders

If you work for an organisation that engages young people in sport, you WILL be working with young carers, and it is so important to be aware of the barriers they may face when accessing community sport. Young carers are often a forgotten demographic of underserved young people: they are independent, they are excellent leaders, they have immeasurable responsibilities for their loved ones, but all of these qualities mean that they are often quiet. We often don't about the barriers young carers face in childhood until they're in their adulthood, with the gift of hindsight: by then, it's too late. Did you know: ? There are an estimated 1 million young carers under the age of 18 in the UK. (Carers Trust, 2024) ? Despite this well informed estimation, only ~54,000 were identified by schools in June 2024. (Carers Trust, 2024) ? On paper, children become 'young carers' at the age of 5 years, however many children under 5 are taking part in care-giving tasks at home. (Barnardo's, 2024). Despite 1 in 5 children being young carers in the UK, support for them is highly varied across local authorities, and is influenced by regional and national funding and policies: some have dedicated internal young carer's services, others have to rely of charities and external organisations. There's also, currently, no standardised of consistent training for professionals working with young people. In short, it's a postcode lottery, and young carers have to rely on being born in the right place to be adequately supported. However, community sport, in some shape or form, exists in most corners of the UK - what a fantastic potential resource to reach countless young carers, regardless of their postcode. Join us on December 3rd to learn more about young carers and how you can best support them in your community setting.
Next Tuesday our Inclusive Club Network is hosting it's next webinar, Empowering Young Carers through Community Sport! There are approximately one million young carers in the UK who are providing support for a family member, friend or siblings at home. Despite this number, only 28% of schools in 2024 identified young carers in their pupil communities. Hosted by Sarah Jones, this webinar will explore the unique challenges faced by young carers, their vital roles, and how community sports clubs, coaches, and volunteers can provide them with lifesaving support. The communities in #Risca and surrounding areas in #Caerphilly, Wales, are set to benefit from a significant enhancement to the sports provision at Risca School and Leisure Centre, as work begins on a dual-use 3G sports pitch. The pitch is scheduled for completion in time for the summer sports season. The long-anticipated development follows extensive planning and collaboration between Caerphilly County Borough Council, local schools, and community sports groups.?It is being funded through Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Community Focussed Schools grant. Leave a Legacy ?? If, like us, volleyball has been an incredibly positive and valuable part of your life and you’d like to help others who might not have that chance to experience the profound impact that sport can have, then a gift in your Will can continue the Foundation’s efforts and leave a legacy of support to all those that come after you. By deciding to remember us in your Will, you'll help our team be there to support and guide all ages, all abilities, all across England. Why should I leave a gift to the Foundation? If you believe in supporting future generations in volleyball then leaving a gift in your Will to us is a great way to help us do just that. Gifts we receive make a real difference to developing the sport from grassroots right through to performance level. Your gift will always matter. Can I decide how I would like my gift to be used? Gifts that are 'unrestricted' (i.e. that we can use wherever they'll make the biggest difference) are the most valuable to us as they can be used where they're most urgently needed. You can also leave a gift in your Will to a particular area or campaign, please just get in touch. What type of gift can I leave? We're hugely grateful for every gift and there are three main types of gift you can leave: A residuary legacy is a percentage of whatever is left over from an estate after debts, funeral expenses, administration costs, and all other gifts have been paid. This can be any percentage you like. Many people choose this type of gift as it ensures their loved ones are taken care of first. A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money that can be any amount, big or small. A specific legacy is a gift of a particular item, such as property or an item of jewellery.
