Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the resilience, culture, and deep connection that Indigenous peoples have to their ancestral lands. It’s a day to reflect on the truth: the land we stand on was once Tribal land—and remains so in spirit, history, and lifeways. Indigenous communities have lost 99% of their traditional territories in the U.S., yet their enduring land ethics, passed down through generations, continue to protect much of the world’s remaining biodiversity. It’s also a day to challenge the myths of the past, particularly the false narrative that Christopher Columbus “discovered” the Americas. Indigenous peoples have lived, thrived, and stewarded these lands for thousands of years, and today is a powerful reminder to honor their rightful place as stewards of their ancestral homelands. We must honor Tribes not just for their resilience, but for their vital role in safeguarding the Earth’s ecological balance. Indigenous stewardship is a living testament to sustainability, one that "western" society desperately needs to acknowledge and learn from. Let’s use this day to recognize Indigenous contributions and push for more Tribal stewardship and respect for the people whose lands we inhabit. Every step toward this truth is a step toward restorative justice. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #WeAreStillHere #HonorTribes #IndigenousStewardship

Today, we honor the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Indigenous peoples. The truth is that they have always been the stewards of this land, deeply connected to its resources, cultures, and traditions. Yet, the truth also reveals a painful reality: Indigenous communities were systematically denied their sovereignty and the ability to live freely on their lands, forced through colonial policies, and subjected to ongoing injustices. Our work seeks to disrupt colonial land ownership patterns. We strive to steward land in ways that honor collective ownership and benefit the community. This vision aligns with traditional Indigenous practices, where land is cared for collectively, ensuring its sustainability for future generations. We recognize that there is so much we have to learn from Indigenous ways of knowing and living. As we continue our journey, we seek to build authentic relationships, standing shoulder to shoulder to uplift one another. We look forward to walking this path, fostering mutual respect, and supporting each other's efforts toward healing, empowerment, and self-determination. Today, we reflect on these truths and reaffirm our dedication to creating spaces that honor collective stewardship, equity, and justice.

Laird Christensen is joining us on Care More Be Better to explain that we cannot have #sustainable, resilient communities where one party feels ignored and excluded from the process. It is essential to find ways to support each other with a deep commitment to #ecological citizenship and #socialjustice, especially in the midst of the #polarization of our system where we villainize others for thinking differently. Defending land rights and speaking up for indigenous people is a moral imperative rooted in justice, respect, and solidarity. Indigenous communities have long been stewards of the land, preserving ecosystems, traditions, and cultural heritage for generations. Yet, they continue to face threats to their lands, livelihoods, and way of life. As advocates for land rights and indigenous rights, it is our duty to stand alongside indigenous peoples in their struggle for self-determination, sovereignty, and recognition of their ancestral lands. We must amplify their voices, honor their wisdom, and support their efforts to protect and reclaim their territories from exploitation, encroachment, and environmental degradation. By defending land rights and advocating for indigenous peoples, we are not just advocating for legal protections or property rights; we are advocating for the preservation of diverse cultures, languages, and knowledge systems that enrich our shared humanity. We are challenging systems of power and privilege that perpetuate inequality and marginalization, and we are working towards a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. Frozan Rasuli bundle of thanks for standing with indigenous people in this worldwide solidarity movement. Nana Kwesi Osei Bonsu Land Rights Defenders Inc Phonan Bonsu
Together, let us be allies, accomplices, and advocates for indigenous peoples, recognizing their inherent rights to land, self-governance, and cultural autonomy. Let us listen, learn, and act in solidarity with indigenous communities, acknowledging their resilience, wisdom, and contributions to the world. In defending land rights and speaking up for indigenous peoples, we not only uphold the principles of human rights and social justice but also affirm our shared responsibility to protect the Earth, honor diversity, and build a world where all voices are heard, all cultures are respected, and all lands are cherished. Thank you @Mohammad Haris Raza for speaking up for backing Land Rights to indigenous people. Mohammad Haris Raza Nana Kwesi Osei Bonsu Land Rights Defenders Inc

Indigenous and other communities articulate the inseparability of nature and all human activities as part of their resistance to external dominance. These worldviews call into question a major strand of Western thinking: that people alone have rights, and that other species exist solely for human use. In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, we pause to acknowledge that the ground we stand on, the land we work, and the homes we inhabit were often taken from Indigenous peoples through a history of colonization, dispossession, and displacement. We recognize the deep and lasting impact this has had on Indigenous communities, their cultures, and their way of life. Acknowledgment is the first step towards reconciliation and healing. We honor the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands for generations and pay our respects to their enduring resilience. It is our collective responsibility to work towards a more just and equitable future, one that centers on truth, reconciliation, and justice. Let us commit to not only recognizing the historical injustices but actively supporting Indigenous-led efforts for self-determination, land sovereignty, and cultural revitalization. By doing so, we can strive to make amends for the past and forge a path of partnership and understanding, where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are celebrated and respected. Together, we can work towards a future where the legacy of stolen land becomes one of shared responsibility, collaboration, and unity among all people who call this land home. Medford Food Co-op recognizes and respects that we work on the following tribal lands: Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Shasta, Takelma, Cow Creek, Umpqua, Modoc, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. #medfordfoodcoop #eatbuylovelocal #indigenouspeoplesday #weliveonstolenland #sacredground #landacknowledgement
