Managing a client’s reputation amidst conflicting information requires a strategic and balanced approach. First, I assess the credibility of each source, cross-referencing data to identify factual, unbiased insights. Transparency is key, so I communicate openly with the client about the discrepancies, outlining potential risks. Next, I craft a clear, consistent message that addresses concerns while maintaining the client’s values and public image. Continuous monitoring of the situation allows me to swiftly adjust the narrative, ensuring the client remains authentic, trustworthy, and in control of their reputation. #pr #publicrelations

This morning I reviewed surveys from dozens of press releases on Businesswire & PRNewswire. I found 8 companies taking liberties with their own survey results by changing a word here and there and/or combining results from multiple questions. The full reports were in the press releases so it was easy to look! Their goal: increase %'s in their press release headlines so the numbers are higher with the intent to generate more attention. By doing this, the data is completely inaccurate and flawed. Research data results don't tell false narratives. Just a brief warning - as people like me do look! PS - I know some will ask "who" they are but I will not embarrass anyone on LI #PR #MarketingCommunications #publicrelations

An increasing number of PR teams appear to be downplaying the problems their businesses are solving out of fear that people will perceive them as being negative or pessimistic. It's the completely wrong approach. The scale of the problem that your business is solving will dictate in large part how much people (and journalists) care about your business. By defining it, you're setting the stakes. And whether it's a journalist or an investor, higher stakes are going to mean greater interest in your company. Why should I care about a solution to a problem that is 'not that bad', or doesn't affect that many people? People sound negative when they pay a lot of attention to problems, but little or none to potential solutions. But that's not what you're doing, is it? As a business, you should be describing the problem (preferably one with high stakes that I can feel invested in), and then explaining how you're solving it (preferably with proof of success and potential to scale). If you do that, you're taking a positive, constructive approach - one that is far more likely to grab someone's attention.

PR is all about relationships—but whose relationships? Ultimately, it’s about the client’s relationships, not just the agency's. An agency can set up meetings, shape narratives, and fine-tune messaging. But the real connection with journalists depends on the client. Impressing a journalist and building rapport requires the client’s active involvement. Remember, relationship-building isn’t something you can outsource. It’s a shared effort.
