2 people in the last 7 days have asked me for a deck that I first presented in March of 2017. The deck looked at how the recorded music/label business would be shaped by the attention economy. The presentation was called "Fighting for Mindshare" and it: 1. Argued that labels would begin to rethink their strategy once streaming growth plateaued. 2. Looked at other industries that had reached 0 sum games continued to market. 3. Talked about how you update your marketing strategy in a streaming world. 4. Shared the evolution of smartURL and the new feature sets we were rolling out. Give it some grace, it was 7.5 years early but a 100% right.

Honestly the Coldplay concert ticket sale was a rollercoaster ride. But the experience was completely ruined by BMS. As customers, we don't want to be bothered with technical details. It’s all about service and experience. BMS knew about the demand, still they couldn’t handle it. Streaming "Emily in Paris" and "Cobra Kai" may be child's play for Netflix, but the streaming giant's expansion into live events has been filled with growing pains, which have thus far revealed the limits of its technological advantage. The biggest test now will be Christmas Day as it streams its first-ever NFL games, but the tests will only get bigger. Touchdown, field goal or fumble? If you were witness to the boxing match between Mike Tyson?and?Jake Paul?in November, you were probably one of the few. The streaming event was less than stellar, marred by persistent buffering and freezing glitches. The numbers tell the story. The bout peaked at 65 million concurrent streams, including 38 million concurrent streams in the U.S. Unfortunately, nearly 85,000 viewers logged problems with outages or streaming leading up to and during the fight. In other words, many tuned in to watch boxing, but wound up fighting with themselves over whether to stick around. The NFL is whole different game. Last year's three games averaged nearly 30 million viewers, and the stakes are even bigger this time around. Netflix forked over $150 million to NFL for the rights to stream two games, which means the giant's 283 million subscribers in over 190 countries will be able to stream the games, marking the first time one outlet has distributed an NFL game globally. Whether it's a comedy special, a late-night talk show, or a dating show reunion, it has been hit or miss as to whether Netflix's broadcasts will run smoothly. Netflix has undoubtedly learning from its previous live streaming experience, but a lot is at stake to get livestreams right and glitch-free.
