It’s Day 10 of Turnaround ‘24 (TA24) at LSB-Pryor, and our team continues to focus on our core value of Making it Better. "Clean, inspect, repair", is a common scope during turnarounds. We're opening up several heat exchangers and doing just that. Project Manger, Matt Foote, and his team of StreamTech service pros deploy technology to execute this important scope. A robot (pictured below) is setup in front of the tube and programmed with the tube pattern. It then reads the tube to optimize cleaning effectiveness by 60% to 75% more clean tubes per hour. Above all this technology removes the technician from the line of fire. New toy (tool...it's a tool...) alert! On the top is a pitot tube. In the bag is the The Energy Conservatory's TrueFlow Grid. Both are tools used to determine the airflow in air-based HVAC systems (and I also got both of them from TruTech Tools, LTD). One of the primary lessons I've learned over the past few years is that airflow determination is the most overlooked diagnostic tool in a technicians toolbelt. As we move away from PSC blower motors to inverter driven, airflow becomes even more critical to ensure equipment lifetimes are met. If we aren't careful about this detail, especially when doing equipment replacements, we are destined for failure. If you're in the market for an AC / furnace replacement, make sure to ask your contractor for a load calc and a static pressure / airflow diagnostic. "like for like" is a guess at best. Resolving Equipment Issues Efficiently Hi LinkedIn Network, I want to share a recent success story from the plant laboratory! We received an Alexander Wright flow meter that had a display problem. This crucial piece of equipment is used to take samples of processes for analytics, and its malfunction was affecting our workflow. Upon inspection, I identified that a simple knob adjustment and repairing a faulty resistor resolved the issue. These problems were likely caused by a sudden overpressure surge, which led to the knob dismantling and electronic circuit issues. I'm happy to have played a part in restoring this important equipment, ensuring it continues to function effectively. By addressing these issues promptly, we’ve saved both time and costs, and maintained our analytical processes smoothly.
