?? What’s a common thread across innovative companies? These organizations have very distinct kinds of leaders. A study of Xerox’s R&D arm, PARC and W. L. Gore & Associates by xLEAD Co-founder Deborah Ancona and MIT Sloan School of Management Professor Kate W. Isaacs revealed the three leadership types that drive success in nimble organizations: entrepreneurial, enabling, and architecting. Together, these roles balance structure and agility, avoiding chaos in our exponentially changing world and business landscape. Dive into the Harvard Business School IdeaCast podcast episode to learn more about their findings: https://lnkd.in/ezXrwpf8 #leadershipstyles #distributedleadership #nimbleleadership #leadership #innovation

Embracing failure - the key to authentic leadership. In my recent podcast with?Andy Storch, I was asked five pivotal questions about leadership. One, in particular, stood out: "What was your biggest failure, and how did it shape you as a leader?" This is a moment that left a profound impact on my leadership journey. (If you'd like to hear the full interview, check the link in the comments!) Here’s what I’ve learned: Failure is not the end—it's a stepping stone to success. No great leader or entrepreneur ever succeeded without failing sometimes. The difference is that successful leaders understand how to "fail forward." They learn from their mistakes and use them as building blocks for future success. Each failure is a chance to sharpen your skills and improve your leadership. ? Authenticity in leadership is critical. It builds trust, fosters loyalty, and promotes a positive work culture. People are more likely to follow leaders who are true to themselves. This in turn makes employees feel safe to express both their ideas and concerns. ? Take every setback as an opportunity to reassess your strategy, strengthen your skills, and stay true to your authentic leadership style. Handle each failure with a growth mindset.? ? Failure is a teacher - and authenticity builds trust. ? So, the next time you stumble, remember—you’re just one step closer to success.

Check out today’s new podcast from the Harvard Business Review where Deborah Ancona and I discuss distributed leadership. Think of a large company you admire. What kind of leadership culture do they have — and how does that affect their ability to innovate? If you went right to command-and-control leadership, you’re not alone. It’s a common approach to leading large organizations. But we argue that big organizations can be nimble if they have three types of leaders in the mix: entrepreneurial, enabling, and architecting. We explain how some large organizations continually develop new talent by empowering employees to lead in their area of expertise and make choices about the projects to which they contribute. We also discuss the structures these companies have created to support leaders and their teams as they transition from hierarchical leadership to more autonomous ways of working.
