Yesterday, Scott Anslum walked into my office for his outprocessing. I asked him, “So, what’s your plan?” At this point, he had submitted more than (20) applications with no call back. I asked him, “what makes you different from the 500+ other candidates applying?” He replied, “I’m a Marine.” I replied, “Thank you for your service, but no one cares.” I asked again, “what’s your plan?” Nothing… Right then and there, I dropped what I was doing and… - Pulled up a job board - Made (1) cold call to a position he qualified for - Got him connected to the hiring manager with an on the spot interview - The hiring manager mentioned he’s interested in moving forward and to send in his resume So, my question is this… What makes you different? #Recruiting #Recruiter #Hiring

Often hiring managers will ask me what I think about candidates and I rarely respond with a technical answer. What I do respond with is, how responsive and intentional they've been in the process. Have they researched the company and asked good questions? Are they timely at responding to asks/feedback? Your resume is your resume, you cannot control what you have or have not experienced at this moment in time, but you are ALWAYS in control of your attitude, your kindness, and your intent.
