DEF! We have an ask: What individuals and organizations are masterfully convening around national security? We want to find those outside the traditional community who are effectively bringing uncommonly eclectic groups together to discuss, explore and implement alternative approaches. We want to look beyond dual use hackathons, contracting facilitation groups and those helping to bridge the valley of death, and even AI and additive manufacturing.... We want to know who is more focussed on, and doing an excellent job of attracting, convening and curating amazing groups for face to face conversations as their main objective. PRIMARILY, we are interested in learning from, and partnering with those who are focussed on the human element, building human networks, fostering authentic relationships and successfully creating platforms for multidisciplinary perspectives to be shared. Who is effectively attracting and recruiting world class talent into the arena? Groups and individuals that come to mind - Who else should be in this list? +More Perfect Union, Jay Long, William Treseder, Lyla Kohistany, Ed.D Globally, Matt Evers, CLTD, Jen Sovada, Mike Slagh Hacking for Defense? Some thoughts I shared with the Defense Entrepreneurs Forum community yesterday in regards to the cellular outages experienced in the US. In point of fact I am not a "closet prepper." In so many ways, the idea of being ready in this country has been bastardized and exploited to perpetuate and promote a niche economy fueled by fear and perceived vulnerabilities. The infrastructure in our country, is in fact outrageously dated and vulnerable to both man made and natural disruptions. We have become remarkably dependent and have lost the concept of being "prepared and capable" for the purpose of being better able to be of service to ourselves, our families and our communities in time of need. There is a material liklyhood that we will continue to experience an increasing level of critical infrastructure disruptions. As Ray Dalio articulates, the greatest defensive weapon we have is strength of community. There are many intentional externalities working to make sure domestic community cohesion remains destabilized. True "readiness" or "Preparedness" is not about stockpiling food, weapons and chickens in preparation for isolation.... Although chickens are cool and having the right tools are also important. True readiness is about building community, having the capacity to contribute (think volunteer firefighting, EMS) or otherwise and being skilled to have the confidence to lead and care for others when the status quo is disrupted. Key to this equation is reimagining approaches to socializing this notion and to chipping away at the negative connotations of preparedness that conjures fringe, anti-government, anti-establishment activities and personas. Our decade + long attempt to accomplish this most recently manifested in the shape of The Readiness Collective Any seasoned #emergencymanagement professional will tell you hyper local community is critical and I would argue, collective community capacity at the local level is a national security imperative given our current geopolitical realities. So... Who are the master curators and community builders out there re-thinking how society comes together to be of service? Who is out there onboarding wider swaths of the population into the national security community to bring the diversity of skills and perspective we need to maintain relevance? Who is focussed on building international inter-connected human networks to strengthen ties, build capacity and deter conflict? Who is doing work on the #humanterrain front? MDEX: Forging Tomorrow’s Defense Landscape Unveiling the Legacy The?Michigan Defense Expo (MDEX)—a symphony of innovation, collaboration, and strategic vision—has etched its mark on the archives of defense history. ?From?April 23 to 25, 2024, the Macomb Community College EXPO Center in Warren, Michigan, becomes our theater of transformation.?Brace yourselves; this isn’t merely an expo—it’s a symposium of destiny. Origins: A Call to Arms Picture this: A modest gathering, fueled by ambition, courage, and a shared purpose. It all began as a whisper—a call to arms for the defense community. The Michigan community of TACOM, the Ground Vehicle Systems Center (which was then TARDEC), the Program Executive Offices (PEO’s), the Army Contracting Command and Industry converged, seeking a nexus where ideas could collide, partnerships could ignite, and breakthroughs could flourish. Thus, the idea for the Michigan Defense Expo (MDEX) was born— a crucible for collaboration, where senior military leaders and industry primes orchestrate the future. A place where briefings echo, strategies align, and the pulse of defense beats stronger. Step inside, and you’ll witness a symphony of steel, cutting edge technology, and battle-tested minds. Behold the array of products and vehicles—each whispering tales of resilience and innovation. But it’s not just machines that beckon; it’s the luminaries—the keynote speakers—who cast their spell. These seasoned military officers, small business successes, and industry titans—take the stage where their words ripple through ranks, sparking ideas, igniting alliances. Networking isn’t a buzzword; it’s a battle plan. Collaboration isn’t a choice; it’s a mission directive. Briefings and Battle Lines Behind the doors, deals are inked, alliances forged, and futures shaped. Exhibitors, their eyes alight with purpose, reveal prototypes, algorithms, and breakthroughs. MDEX isn’t just an expo; it’s a war room. Futures are shaped, victory algorithms coded in this theater of transformation. ? Evolution: A Tapestry of Resilience Fifteen years have woven threads of change into the MDEX’s fabric. Names shifted, but the heartbeat remained constant. Its mission? To foster interaction—to be the crucible where sparks of genius collide. Education intertwines with innovation, hands-on evaluations birth breakthroughs. And networking? It’s not just about business cards; it’s about kindred souls connecting across the chasm of possibility. Your Invitation Awaits Join us—your passport to a world where innovation isn’t a buzzword; it’s a heartbeat. Be part of the symphony. Be part of MDEX. Because here, history isn’t just written; it’s lived. MDEX: Be the architect of tomorrow’s defense. https://mdex-ndia.com/
