A Reflection on Hiring Practices for Health and Safety Professionals It’s concerning to see qualified health and safety professionals being rejected simply because they don’t hold a specific certificate (which I won’t name) listed in a job description, even though they possess diplomas or degrees from reputable universities in the same field, often at a higher level of education. This is similar to rejecting a university graduated engineer simply for not having a specific technical certificate in the same field, even though their degree already qualifies them for the role. In my opinion, this approach often stems from a fear of not meeting a predefined checklist, rather than focusing on evaluating candidates based on their actual skills, experience, and potential in an interview. It’s worrying because it may overlook highly qualified professionals who are more than capable of succeeding in the role. I respect that others may have different perspectives, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. #HealthAndSafety #HiringPractices #CareerOpportunities #InclusiveHiring #ProfessionalGrowth #SafetyFirst

Great conversation between Kathryn Pharr from Community of Women in Water and Josh Newton of Josh's Water Jobs with great tips. ???? ?? https://lnkd.in/dpKSSvZW 7 key take-aways: 1?? The best way to find a job is through networking - reaching out to people in organizations you're interested in, attending conferences, and having informational interviews/conversations. Online job boards are helpful but most jobs are found through personal connections. 2?? When looking to relocate for a job, do your research by talking to people who live there about the living conditions, schools, housing market, healthcare, etc. Some companies may offer a trial period before fully relocating. 3?? To get a job with limited experience, seek out short-term consultancies and paid internships to get your foot in the door. Demonstrate initiative, ask smart questions, and do your research on the organization. 4?? Transferable skills like communication, writing, language abilities, and soft skills are very valuable, even if you don't have direct water sector experience. Frame your existing skills in the language of the job you're applying for. 5?? To stand out to recruiters, showcase personal projects, volunteering, knowledge sharing on social media, etc. This demonstrates motivation and initiative. 6?? Be upfront with potential employers about your needs around remote work, travel requirements, and work-life balance, especially if you have family considerations. Many organizations are open to negotiating flexible arrangements. 7?? Continuously build your skills through online courses, MOOCs, certifications etc. Josh's Water Jobs plans to create a database of such training opportunities. #WASH #Jobs #Inclusion #genderEquity #WomenInWater

#WorkplaceDrama #JobLoss #CareerChoices I just heard some pretty shocking news that I needed to share and get your thoughts on. ?? So, it turns out that about **30 workers** at my company got **fired** because they decided to participate in a national competitive exam for a state-owned oil company. This isn't just any job either; they had **6000 engineering positions** available, and the pay is really good! ?? Here's the deal: Many of the employees took a **day off**, claiming they were sick or had other reasons. ?? But after the exam, it was announced that everyone who took the day off AND had an engineering diploma was let go. This even included some of my friends! ?? Now, I know there are laws about **wrongful termination** in my country, but let's be real: it often feels like those laws just don’t apply to the **rich and powerful**. ???? This whole situation feels unjust, and I just wanted to vent a little. If you’ve experienced anything similar, I’d love to hear your story or a...
