When the rooftop gets a whole new meaning. This is environmental urban innovation at its best.

To build better cities, we need to think multidimensionally. Public places and green spaces shouldn't be limited to the ground floor but should extend to rooftops as well. Basecamp Lyngby exemplifies this vision. It's a socially interactive superstructure that functions as a sustainable shared living community for 900 students, PhDs, and senior citizens. Project by Lars Gitz Architects and Kragh Berglund Landscape Architecture and Urban Design

How can we reimagine urban living in the 21st century? ?? At BAU 2025, Professor Oliver Thill presented a thought-provoking lecture on four residential construction projects across Europe. Social housing on an old prison site in Amsterdam? A powerful example of how transforming existing urban spaces can create affordable, sustainable housing solutions. The lecture explored cost-optimized strategies beyond traditional standards while offering fresh perspectives on urban living quality in today’s world.?? Here are our three key takeaways: ?? Building economically starts with smart urban planning ?? Simply raising standards does not always guarantee better quality – so we need to ask: who are we planning for and what does quality truly look like in that context? ?? Actively shaping urban development with a cost-optimized strategy ensures that both demands and budget realities are effectively addressed. Were you at Forum The Future of Building and attended this lecture? Let us know what you found most interesting?? ?? #BAU #baumuenchen #innovation?#architecture #constructionindustry

In case you missed it: The SLB and Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) announced the winners of the Timber in the City 5: Urban Habitats Competition. The fifth installment of the Timber in the City series, this year’s competition challenged students to devise ways of meeting urban housing needs through the addition of an overbuild, or vertical extension, made of wood to an existing building or structure. The seven winning projects demonstrate creative and clear approaches to designing a healthy built environment with wood as a central material, emphasizing the importance of addressing both sustainability and affordability in urban development. Interested in learning more about whole building life cycle assessments but not sure where to start? The RAIC - IRAC in partnership with Ha/f Climate Design is taking a lead at helping local architects understand how to reduce embodied carbon. Register here for the in-person event: https://lnkd.in/g4tQhaWa This one day course will give hands-on experience on how to work with the software One Click LCA and understand how to read EPDs. More importantly, local experts will share experience and thought processes when using tools and data to design low carbon buildings. I am excited to be helping to facilitate in Vancouver on Feb 3. #wbLCA #LifeCycleAssessment #EmbodiedCarbon #Course
