?? ?? To plant or not to plant? Today I share part three of our miniseries on mangrove restoration. This episode guides you through the questions you can ask yourself to properly plan your restoration work. By asking the right questions you can achieve an integrated restoration approach that steers away from mistakes that are so commonly made. Following Ecological Restoration principles yields diverse, resilient mangrove forests while preventing unintended negative impacts on other coastal ecosystems. You can watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/eqXMicHP Feel free to share in your networks. The videos are also available in Portuguese and French with more translations on the way! ? #mangroves #restoration #MangroveBreakthrough #GlobalMangroveAlliance #restoration #ecologicalmangroverestoration #decadeonrestoration #planting #nature #adaptation

This summer, join Western Landowners Alliance CEO Lesli Allison and Ranchlands CEO Duke Phillips on the Paintrock Canyon Ranch for a week (June 30 - July 5, 2024) of exploring the incredibly varying landscape as well as the complexities surrounding the past, present, and future of ranching in the western United States. Together, Lesli and Duke will lead this weeklong workshop in important conversations about ranching and conservation. Each morning will be spent riding or hiking through the meadows and canyons on the ranch and each afternoon we will take a seat at the table for discussions about ranching and conservation. How does ranching achieve conservation and why is it important? What are the challenges the ranching industry is facing today and how do we overcome them? How will ranching continue into the future and what will it look like? This workshop is open to everyone, not just ranchers and riders. The more perspectives around the table the better. Learn more and reserve your spot today: https://lnkd.in/gKaNQ5vm

Interesting how just adding gravel and sand back to a river has the potential to increase biodiversity and health of the ecosystem.

REWILDING THE ABRAMS?N RIVER Rewilding is about creating the right conditions for nature to restore itself. And sometimes we need to push boundaries, and we don't shy unconventional measures if needed ??. Located in Rewilding Europe’s?Swedish Lapland?rewilding landscape?????, the Abrams?n River is a tributary of the 210-kilometre long R?ne River – Europe’s longest undammed forest river. It is typical of many waterways in the northern Sweden damaged by historical logging ??. In 2023, the?Rewilding Sweden?team?kicked off efforts?to rewild stretches of the Abrams?n by restoring the natural shape and flow of the river. These actions are part of the team’s?“waterscape” approach, which aims to enhance blue-green corridors for nature ?? and wildlife ?? by restoring the free flow of water ??, and enhancing the connection between healthy rivers and surrounding landscapes. In September this year – the second year of restoration on the Abrams?n – the team organised a helicopter drop of 150 tonnes of sand and gravel into the restored stretch of the river. Why did they do this, and what kind of impact are the team expecting? We asked Vebj?rn Kveberg Opsanger, a Norwegian PhD student at the Trondheim-based?Norwegian Institute for Nature Research?(#NINA) involved with monitoring, to explain. Here you find the answers ???? https://lnkd.in/eksikRmz #RestoreNature #GenerationRestoration #Waterscapes #rewilding #LessTalkMoreAction Henrik Persson | Anders Granér | Petter Esberg | Isak Edstr?m ?? You can't force habitat restoration but you can enable it. ?? 80% of mangrove planting projects fail - why? Because they don't consider the conditions mangroves need ??♂? This video by Wetlands International outlines exactly how to approach mangrove restoration using the Ecological Mangrove Restoration technique, emphasising the need to engineer the right conditions. Do that right and mangrove trees may not even need to be planted because they can colonise naturally. We've used this approach on several projects in Singapore and Hong Kong - guess what? It works! #habitatrestoration #nbs #naturebasedsolution #naturepositive #natureconservation #naturalcapital

A PROPOSAL TO MANAGE A GEOGRAPHY OF THE SOUL (Commentary and analysis) A few days ago (Oct. 3), the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service unveiled their proposal to manage Bears Ears National Monument in southeast Utah. It’s hard to overstate the scope of what the federal agencies envision. * It’s the culmination of an unprecedented multi-year, multi-million dollar public-and-private collaboration to protect geological and cultural artifacts scattered across southeast Utah, scrapping federal land agencies’ multiple-use mandate. * It’s a politically and legally tenuous model to incorporate tribal knowledge and expertise into public-land management — an important initial step for tribes in regaining sovereignty over ancestral lands. * It grants Native Americans of the region privileged status among organizations and individuals with stakeholder interests, including descendants of Latter-day Saints who colonized the area 145 years ago at great peril and believe their stake to the same land is equally valid. * It would prohibit energy development and place restrictions on access and recreation.

A major project to return Mill Park’s Peter Hopper Lake to good health is moving into an exciting new phase. ? Following the removal of 3000 cubic metres of sediment from the lakebed, the lake is ready for the removal of the central island and construction of a gross pollutant trap, sediment basin and raingarden. Council’s expert engineers and environmental scientists have worked with specialist consultants on a plan to break the cycle of algae blooms. ?? The lake is heading towards a healthier future for all the community to enjoy! This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchment Program and the City of Whittlesea.

Searchlight New Mexico's article shines a spotlight on the deep-rooted concerns of Tribal and Pueblo leaders and community members regarding the potential impacts of Caja del Rio transmission line. For Tribes and Pueblos like Tesuque Pueblo, the Caja del Rio holds sacred significance as a place of cultural practices and connection to our ancestors. Tribal leaders have voiced strong opposition to the project, emphasizing the need to preserve our cultural resources and traditional way of life. The proposed construction threatens to disrupt sacred sites and ancestral footprints, undermining the spiritual and cultural integrity of the land. As stewards of our heritage, it is imperative that we engage in meaningful dialogue and advocate for sustainable solutions that honor our cultural identity and environmental stewardship. Sovereign Energy is committed to amplifying Tribal voices and supporting initiatives that uphold Tribal sovereignty and environmental justice. Energy companies must learn to work with Tribes, rather than against us. https://lnkd.in/gBtqnEnE

What makes your home a sweet one? ???? 95% of Texas is privately owned. This means landowners are vital to a future rich in natural resources. Landowners can: ?? Restore native plants to create reliable food sources and habitat while protecting groundwater. ?? Manage invasive species like feral hogs or non-native plants. ? Work with a land trust to establish a conservation easement, permanently protecting the land from future development while retaining ownership. Our Business member, Texas Farm Credit supports the East Foundation and Witte Museum’s Land Stewardship Ambassadors program, which introduces high schoolers to concepts and careers in land management. Partnerships like these are perfect reasons to #ThankATxNBusinessMember for advancing conservation in Texas! If you’re ready to start your conservation legacy, we created a resource guide with everything you need to know to get started! ??Check it out here: https://bit.ly/3LfZXxG
