While administrations may change, our calling remains. The need remains. Our determination to work tirelessly toward a world where families in vulnerable situations can rebuild full and flourishing lives, remains. President Elect Trump has promised that under his leadership on Day 1 he will halt all refugee arrivals to the United States. If enacted, these policies will alter the course of hundreds of thousands of lives and will be a tragic injustice for people who have fled conflict, persecution, and violence. We’re going to be doing all we can to fight against these changes and continue advocating for compassionate public policies guided by biblical principles. We have a bold and steadfast plan to continue in our mission in the midst of adversity. But make no mistake, we need your support. For over 35 years, we’ve been partnering with people like you to welcome our refugee and immigrant neighbors to Sacramento. Together, we’ve got work to do. Will you join us? Overwhelmed by Executive Orders? HIAS is on it. Join our in-house experts mark hetfield, Naomi Steinberg, and Smita Rao Dazzo in conversation with my colleague Merrill Zack on January 30 to make sense of - and appropriately take action during - the first days of the second Trump Administration. So far, the Trump Administration has: 1. Paused the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program with no requirements that it officially restart after review. It also canceled flights of over 10,000 refugees due to arrive even before the 1/27 suspension of the program as stated in the EO. 2. Laid the groundwork for mass deportation. 3. Severely restricted the ability to seek asylum at the U.S./Mexico border. 4. Terminated future access to humanitarian parole programs. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. So please join us on 1/30 to learn more and take action. #executiveorders #trumpexecutiveorders #trumpeos #refugeeswelcome #refugeesupport #refugees #asylum #asylumseekers #humanitarianparole #immigrants #southernborder #usmexicoborder #immigration https://lnkd.in/gWzWTf_B

?? Today on World Children's Refugee Day, I want to shine a light on the heartbreaking challenges migrant children face worldwide. ?? Millions of children are fleeing conflict, persecution, and poverty, seeking safety and a chance at a better future. Their journeys are filled with unimaginable hardships, from dangerous crossings to the trauma of family separation. In the U.S. alone, the heartbreaking reality of thousands of lost children in the immigration system is a stark reminder of the urgent need for compassionate policies. As an immigrant who has faced my own share of struggles, I understand the deep pain of separation and the relentless fight for acceptance. My upcoming book, Butterflies Move Freely, discusses these issues, highlighting the incredible resilience and strength of immigrant communities. Today, let's raise our voices for the countless children who deserve safety, stability, and a chance to thrive. We are all interconnected so deeply, that our impact ripples thru space & time. We must push for compassionate policies that protect and uplift vulnerable young lives. Join me in advocating for a world where every child, no matter where they come from, can find a place to call home. ??

I had an opportunity last week for World Refugee Day to interview with BBC News around family Reunification. As someone who has experienced family separation, I know all too well what that is like. How many more years will refugee families have to wait to be together again? Some may never see their loved ones again. We need the Administration to: -Alleviate the existing backlogs of individual cases, so families can quickly be reunited. -Expand the Parole Porgram to be global. -Scale up and invest in community sponsorship. -And reverse course on the recent Exective Order (212F) on people seeking asylum - as it is creating more family separation. It is a valid and legal pathway for people to seek asylum. Resettlement and Asylum save lives & we need to continue to expand it.
Nejra Sumic, Refugee Congress Delegate for Arizona and National Field Manager for We Are All America, gave an interview with BBC News on World Refugee Day. Nejra shared about her experiences with forced displacement and family separation, acknowledge US efforts to resettle 100,000 refugees this year, and noted the need to further reunite families that have been separated. “The United States is a welcoming country,” she said. “The United States has done very well in welcoming those who have been forcibly displaced; however, there are still things that the Administration can do to speed up the family reunification process in order to bring families together.” #RCLeads #RefugeeCongress #WAAA #USRAB

Every day, families around the world navigate challenges and celebrate triumphs together. For refugee families, however, separation can overshadow these everyday moments. The importance of family unity transcends borders and circumstances. In my role with UNHCR, I've seen the resilience of families striving to reunite amidst complex and often lengthy bureaucratic processes. We must advocate for faster and simpler family reunification procedures to help refugee families find their #HopeAwayFromHome. Join me in supporting this vital cause. Let's ensure that the principle of family unity can become a reality for all who have been forcibly displaced. Together, we can make a difference. #FamilyReunification #UNHCR #HumanitarianAwareness #RefugeeSupport
Like all families, refugee families belong together. On #DayOfFamilies and every day, we’re calling for faster and simpler family reunification procedures so that refugee families can find #HopeAwayFromHome together.
