I’m thrilled to announce that a recent research project, a joint effort between ExxonMobil and GeoMark Research, has been published in #OrganicGeochemistry! ? Title: The temporal distributions of seed-plant terpanes in petroleum samples: Implications as oil age-diagnostic biomarkers for crude oils We tapped into GeoMark’s unique collection of >60,000 oils from diverse paleoenvironments and quantified the relative abundances of seed-plant terpanes to reveal patterns consistent with their evolutionary history. ? ?? Key Highlights: 1?? Developed three age indicators to improve the resolution of seed-plant biomarkers, enhancing oil age differentiation. 2?? Demonstrated angiosperm dominance from the Early Cretaceous to Eocene, while highlighting gymnosperm patterns pre-Jurassic to Cretaceous-Tertiary. 3?? Advanced our understanding of molecular fossils and their significance in de-risking petroleum systems. ? Shoutout to Chun (Charlie) Zhu for leading the charge on this manuscript! Our work investigating the impact of anthropogenic activities on microbial populations in a unique tropical lake ecosystem in Indonesia has been published in FEMS Microbiology.
