The DHSC should be wholly removed from any H&SC reform efforts as the amount of stupidity embedded in that ministry is obscene. The recent 2023 roll out of the mandatory Oliver McGowan training for learning disabilities care is a case in point of a ministry that lacks any sense of supply chain management - a skill set necessary to run a healthy H&SC system. They rolled out the Tier 2 element (that which is needed to provide actual care to those with learning disabilities) without actually ensuring adequate training provision actually existed, creating a human capital bottle neck that didn’t previously exist in a sector already short of staff and a huge new cost (due to the low number of approved trainers) in a sector already broke. Dumb, irresponsible, reckless. #NHSreform

Skills Ministers met today to progress significant reform to get more skilled workers and make sure the training system is of the highest quality: - we have approved the biggest changes to qualifications in a generation to make them simpler and relevant to what industry needs - we were briefed on the work to get rid of dodgy providers and unanimously supported the strong action being taken - we reaffirmed our commitment to build the workforce needed to build more homes - we approved a new National Foundation Skills Strategy with $4.2m in extra funding to give more Australian adults the literacy and numeracy skills they need for work and everyday life.
